BTW: the log hauler in the picture above, was being drawn by a Honda 4 wheeler
I imagine you could do a lot better with a compact tractor.

If it's a hobby have you thought about making something? Something like an engine lift with larger wheels and instead of a cylinder to lift the logs you could make a way to attach the other end of the lift arm to the loader. The wheels could be the fulcrum and the arm can be attached to the loader (if you have a SSQA on your tractor would make it real easy). Since you don't need to lift it high you could make the lever with a 4 to 1 advantage. You could put a ballast box on the end of the lever so the tractor would only be needed to make up the small difference between the ballast and the weight.
