I have decided on two tractors for pricing and wondering what everyone's thoughts are. The Massey is 1652 cab with dyna qps 2 rear remotes, loader, third function control, mid pto rim guard R4 tires for 35500.00. The L5740hstc with the same equipment as the 1652 for 39000.00. My dealer cannot find a 5240 for a direct comparison due to the 60 series coming out. The price on the 4760 HSBC is more than the 5740. I will mainly be using for deer food plots. Either one HP wise will be ample. I looked at deere but they were not really competitive in my area. The best I got on a 4520 was around 43k. Nice tractor but don't see the value over kubota.

Thanks

I am not familiar with the MF, but that is a really good price on the 5740, way less than I paid for mine this summer. I got a couple more bells and whistles, but still seem like a good price.

I didn't think you could get a mid mount PTO on the L5740.

:alert: That is a pretty smoking price on the L5740! :alert:

As TripleR said, I am pretty sure there is no mid mount PTO option on that tractor or I would have gotten it on mine. According to my dealer, the L5240 is kind of an outlier in the line. They don't make too many of them because most buyers jump from the L4740 to L5740. I tried to buy a L5240 last year to save a little money, but there were none available for over three months! It worked to my advantage though (and I am guessing to yours as well in this case) because they sold me the 5740 at the same price I had negotiated for the 5240.

I have no experience with that model Massey, but I equipped my L5740 very similarly to what you are looking and couldn't be happier with it. It does everything I ask of it - I do a lot of work in tight spaces of wooded areas and it is very nimble and powerful. Have fun shopping!

I would definitely go with the Kubota 5740 over the Massey Ferguson. I like the 1652 cab model, but when I was looking, I thought the Kubota was a little better all round tractor. The 4520 is a little expensive unless the price includes the 400CX loader, air-ride seat, radio, rear wiper and lights, economy PTO and 2 rear remote (SCVs). If it the 4520 has all of that, then is not a bad price for the JD.

This is only my opinion and I am bias because I own a JD 4520, the JD 4520 and 4720 are the only two tractors that can go up against the Kubota 5740 from a featured standpoint. The HST transmissions are similar on the JD 4520/4720 and Kubota 5740, except that Kubota has the hi/lo feature which gives you those additional gears; that is really nice. The JD has a few features I like a little better, such the economy PTO, self-leveling loader (400CX loader), electronic direct injected JD PowerTech engine and air-ride seat. However, Kubota is starting to bridge that feature gap with the new L60 series by offering the air-ride seat and direct injected Kubota engines.

If the JD 4520 does not have the features I mention above for 43k, I would not consider it. The 5740 is a better deal, plus the 6 speed HST is a plus over the 4520's 3 speed HST.

All I can say is that I want to live where you live. As everyone else has said, that is a smokin' deal on the 5740. Run, do not walk.

A mid pto was a option on my 5740, a mid mount mower deck was not. All though it is pictured on the brochure with one. I think it would have cost me about $600 installed, I'd have to check my price quotes to be accurate.

Thanks for the correction on mid PTO.

Ahhhhh. That makes more sense. I remembered it wrong. Good call.

If I remember correctly the larger tires on the 5740 don't allow for enough room between them for a MMM.

Was thinking of trying to put one in when I change the trans fluid, not sure how hard it would be but I think it would be about a $400 investment + fluid/filter and providing I don't screw anything up :) Would get quite costly then of course. ;(
