I am looking at buying a Massey Ferguson GC 1700 series tractor and I was comparing the stats from their brochure. I noticed that both the 22.5 and 25HP models use the same engine with the same displacement. The machine dimensions, tranny and 3pt hitch are all the same. The only difference in the 1705/1710 compared to the 1715/1720 models is that the engine speed is rated 400rpm higher for the 25HP models. (2600-3000)
I might be crazy here but if my engine has the same displacement I should be able to achieve the same HP at the higher RPM regardless of what the sticker says my 17xx number is?.
So are they asking me to pay a couple thousand more to run my tractor at a higher RPM for the 1715/1720 to get to the 25HP? Maybe I am missing something or do not get something conceptually. Any help explaining this would be appreciated
Here is where I got my data:
