Mtn,
Your Cat example was excellent....that's exactly what I meant in my original post of discerning the practical differences.....your 2720 vs. 1026r really helped. That's what I was looking for. Real life of examples. Pointing out the need for 3 gears rather than 2. This helps me avoid mistake.
Thanks,
John

Hi Chevy,
I just read a post on "Green Tractor Talk". The gentleman got rid of his 1026r and replaced it with a 2720. He lives in a hilly area and felt (1026r) it couldn't do the job..not enough ooomph !! Interesting perspective. Claims he saw and felt the big difference as soon as he obtained the 2720.
I'd be interested on your thoughts although it really isn't relevant to my original question. Maybe I misunderstood the Gentleman's post.

It all depends on the type of work someone is doing with their tractor.
I am sure there are lots of happy 2720/2032 owners, I was just not one of them.

I cannot say that I have ever been unhappy with the power of the 1026R, but I have a 4120 for the bigger jobs that I did not have when I had the 2720.

I my opinion, lots of power should translate into getting things done quicker. That was not the case with the 2720 I had. I could get a lot more done with the 2320 I traded in & the 1026R that I currently have then I could with the 2720.

I am sure my opinion would have been different if the 2720 had 3 gear ranges as the bigger tractors do, or at the very least had a lower geared high range.
