Anyone priced these lately?
Rhino SE8A looks like a nice machine, I have a Rhino 172. I know its tough.
Bush Hog 2008 seems nice as well.
Both would be lift type, pulled by a 65hp LS XU5065CPS or my Allis Chalmers 180.

Thanks,
CT

Either one of those would be around $5,000 new. Used ones seem to go for around $3,000 +/- depending on condition. I saw a used Bush Hog 2008 the other day listed for $3,200 in good condition.

Either one would be a really good match for your new LS.

BTW, I have a Rhino 172 also, and it's a tough, well built machine.

I'm using a borrowed SE8A right now, in exchange for mowing down some of the owners fields. If i had the money I'd try and buy from him.maybe in a fww months... next year i can.

I had a 7ft Rhino 184 some years back. The SE8A pulls easier and generally does a better job. Not sure how much to offer for it.

I was thinking about a Rhino 184, but they are MASSIVE! Also I would like more coverage. I feel a 8ft to 10ft twin spindle would be a good match. I would keep the 172 for tight spots and brush (small trees).

Anyone have experience with HOWSE? They are built in Alabama. They have twin spindle units.

I was not expecting 5k, good lawd!

Yes, the 7 foot cutters are indeed massive.

In my opinion, Howse is one step down from the upper tier cutters like Bush Hog, Rhino, Land Pride and Woods. I think they are pretty good, just not as good as those upper tier ones.

But keep in mind that Bush Hog, Rhino, etc. all make light, medium and heavy duty cutters, so an upper level Howse may be as good or better than a lower end Bush Hog, Rhino or Woods.

The 8 foot Howse model I've seen sells new for around $3,300 or less. So I would think a used one should be around $2,000 - $2,300 +/- depending on condition.

The 8ft and 10ft HOWSE are on the HD end of the spectrum. I also found another brand made in TN, called TRI. Looks very similar to a Kodiak, possibly build under the same roof.

Any experience or seen a TRI or Kodiak in person?

I have the Kodiak HD8. I've put probably 70-80 hrs on it and so far it seems to be a good cutter. I do wish it had a smooth deck for easier cleaning and water runoff, but I keep it indoors so no rust yet. Seems well built.

The Kodiak looks like a durable machine. I do agree with you, its not a Rhino when it come to the smooth, angled deck. Very little can get trapped on the Rhino.

I did some "Googling" and Found that Kodiak and TRI (Tennessee River Implements) are both in TN and very close to each other. Their twin spindle mowers look VERY similar. The TRI is less expensive from what online pricing I have found. Both look like they can do the job. Both are less expensive than the Rhino, Bush Hog, Land Pride, and Woods.

I need to look up Modern Ag again. They are galvanized...

We have a Bush Hog 3008 and it cuts very well. Installed on a NH TL100A ( tractor in my Avatar) but, John Ryan @ RCO Tractors (LS dealer) told me that it would work fine on the 65 HP LS you mentioned. We have been looking at that tractor. The BH 3008 is probably a bit heavier than the BH 2008.

Here are specifications on the BH 2008 and 3008;

3008 Series Rotary Cutters

2008 Series Rotary Cutters

2008 will cit up to 1 1/2" and 3008 up to 2" material. About 473 lbs. difference in weight for lift type.

I have had both pull type and lift type. For open fields the pull type is great but we have lots of trees so lift type is easier to maneuver.

Good luck with your selection.
