Tractor is in pretty nice shape cosmetically, but has a bad torque amplifier. It has 6700 hrs on it and the tires are at 30% (single set of rears). No weights as far as i can tell. Also it does have a cab on it. Just wondering what every ones opinion is about the price. Maybe some input on how much it will cost to have to TA done if I don't do it myself. Thanks for the help guys!!!

:welcome: to the forum Kyle. I really haven't priced Internationals, so I can't say. I will bump this back to pg 1 and see if the Sunday bunch has a clue.

Have you ever driven an IHC 1086?? Yrs ago I plowed with a 986(next smaller HP size) for one day unhooked it from field cultivator and hooked my tractor up to FC to finish fields. One day driving 986 was enough for me. I'd guess $2000-$3000 to repair TA.

Thanks Fawken, I appreciate the help!! TX Jim what were your complaints about the IH? I have yet to drive one so I'm curious.

Based on auction results around here that is a bit high for one with a bad TA and only 30% tires.

the ride was never rough when the tire pressures are right! I'd figure the cost of the TA with a clutch job. It would be more then the other estimate.

6700 hours, lots of hours, hopefully the hour meter works. 30% tires, 4 tires all around, $3k or more. TA & clutch, $5k. Things that you don't see, that need to be fixed, $$$$? Really a money pit. The best way to own a restored tractor is to buy it from the guy who restored it, then offer him 25% of what he has into it. It will pixx him off, but he will be luckey to get 50%, if he did the work himself.

My sister's family - dairy farmers. Until recently they have been all old Farmalls. I can't tell you all they have but there are 2 x 986, 1 x 1486, 1 x 4386, 1 x 856, a loader tractor that is so beat up I can't tell which model, and 2 of the larger 2 plus 2s. They like them very well although I prefer creature comforts in my old age and since all have cabs but none have working air conditioning, when I help them out I bring my own tractor and they supply the fuel. They get the job done but in their old age they are prone to breakdowns. That is part of the reason they have so many tractors. The engine on the tractor at which you are looking is about the range theirs have needed overhauls.

When I did start helping them out, I drove a 986 and one of the 2+2s quite a bit.

All except one of their Farmalls have been pieced together by a person who buys and mates parts. Having no functional TA - I was used to it driving their tractors. When something fails, it is usually easy to fix. Except for the TAs, they have had very good transmission life. Engines, however, have needed overhauls in the 7500 - 10,000 hour range, we think. There isn't a functional hour meter in the group.

I think the tractor would work good but I would like to see lower $$$$.
