cabelas is discontinuing tractor sales

Last month when I was looking for a new tractor I stopped by cabelas and test drove their tractors. I got a price on a tractor and ended up getting a john deere. I did not like the cab of the cabelas tractor as much.

Today I call from the salesman asking if I had bought a tractor yet. I told him that I bought a deere, he said that was to bad because he could give me a great deal on one. He said that cabelas was giving big discounts on their tractors. I ask them why they were having such a big sale, he said that the tractors we not selling as good as cabelas had hoped they would and they were not going to sell them anymore.

He said they were going to sell off their current inventory and they would not be getting anymore in. So if you what a good deal on a tractor cabelas is selling them cheap right now. The salesman said he could pry add a backhoe to the tractor I was looking at and still come in at the same price he gave me before without the backhoe.

I did not ask if they were discontinuing their service department, but there would be no reason to keep it open.
I am glad I did not end up buying a cabelas tractor.

Well you see the thing is, if you wanted a "Cabelas" tractor, you can hot foot it down to a TYM tractor dealer and buy one from TYM, the Original Equipment Manufacture for thousands of dollars less. Oh sure it doesn't have green purdy paint, but how much is some green purdy paint worth? Apparently not much to a lot of folks. So the "cabelas" tractor marketing scheme is a bust... Yeah... I wonder who saw that coming.

Good. had enough problems with the staff there answering questions about fishing and boats. Would hate to ask about tractors.
Never thought about hunting or fishing from my tractor. Maybe I missed something.

Well it may be a good opportunity to get a real good deal on some of their implements that are made by Woods.

I am not surprised -- they were taking a TYM, changing the paint, and pricing it like a Deere.

There are still some people that think that TYM tractors and cabelas tractors are different, and there was a reason for the price difference. I could not find any when I looked and drove the both.

I forgot to ask the salesman what kind of deals they were doing on the implements.

Cabela's will continue to service and support the tractors because their service departments support the other products that they continue to sell, boats, atv's utv's, and many of the techs are cross trained to service tractors and the other items. There is a good selection of product in the Cabela's inventory and it is going to be a buyers market. And the tractors are TYM so parts and service will always be available at the TYM dealers.
Just to be clear, I am a powersports outfitter at Cabela's and I have been selling the tractors and will continue to do so, but I am upfront with any customer about what is happening, for most people they are looking at the price and considering future service needs. But Cabela's will not turn their backs on their customers, that you can be sure of
