Looking at a 2013 Grand L 3940 HST in like new condition with
less than 100 hours of very light use-garage queen.

Is this year still an old Tier model...prior to the Tier 4?

Has this been a good and reliable model?

I am not familar with the Grand L and have no idea as to how it compares
with a standard L model, and what the price difference is between them.

Most important, is what would be a fair selling price for this model with a FEL?
NO cab.

Yes, the 3940 is what is considered a Tier 4 interim. Not a tier 4 final. So no regeneration or anything like that. Most people consider the 3940 a very deluxe full featured tractor. With less than 100 hours. it is basicly brand new. Barely broken in. Grand L's have many more features, than a standard L, are heavier, and sold for a lot more money. The HST is an advanced design with a 2 speed motor. It is called HST+. it has many advanced features compared to a standard L hydrostatic transmission. You can go on youtube to learn more. it would take a page of typing here to explain them all. Which loader model does the machine have on it? and Which bucket? square back or round back? Fair price? hmmm. Things are worth what someone will pay. But if you could get it for 20k to 22K, it would be worth it. Perhaps even a bit more where you live, as tractors are higher in the northeast compared to the south.

They are a very nice tractor;I wouldn't wait long if you are interested. As stated a couple different FEL 's were offered and different buckets.Low hours and pre-final pollution control make it attractive.

L a724 / with QR bucket / Flat Back bucket

"Yes, the 3940 is what is considered a Tier 4 interim." Does this mean that this tractor has additional emmisions controls, etc.. that could be a problem and expense in the future?
More so than the 2004 B7800 that I currently own?

That'd be a very very nice tractor. It won't come cheap, though...

Not really, it smokes a bit more than the L30, but no additional stuff like DPF etc.

OK so it has the smaller of the two loaders, but still a good one, and the bucket is the standard bucket not the Heavy duty bucket, but still fine. There is no real emission gear on the tractor that will cause you any expense that I know of. It does have much electronics that you B7800 does not have. But they do not seem prone to failure. At least we are not seeing any reports of problems here. These tractors are considered very desirable, and in that frame size the 3940 is the most powerful of that series. HST+ is also considered very desirable. If you want a slick full featured tractor, I would not let this one go, especially with the low hours.

How does the lift capacity of this loader compare to the larger loader/GrandL upgrade loader?

LA724 vs the larger LA854 loader. The lift capacity of Kubota loaders is approximately the numeric value in kilograms. so 724x2.2 lbs = 1592 and 854x2.2 lbs = 1878. Of course these numbers are just approximates, and also at just what distance from the pin these figures are to represent is not entirely clear. But it should give you an idea of the relative lifts ability's. So about 1600 lbs for the La724 and about 1900 lbs for the La854. This would be to full height of the lift, and of course the break out figures and lower lift heights would be much more. These figures would be pretty good for the weight and frame size of these tractors.
