The shop where I took the 3000 Ford called so the son and I when by first thing Sat morning to see what the guy had to show us that he found.
All was good with the axle he had out after he removed the bearing. He had both rear wheels off and just the drum removed on the left side. The brake shoes look new but need to be replaced due to being oil soaked for years. He is going to order the new bearings, inner/outer seals and new brake shoes. He talked through the steps to mount and set the preload on the new bearings. He has had the 3000 for less than a week when we visited the shop at his invite on Saturday. He is going to inspect for oil in the bell housing next and we will address that if there is any. Today seems to be the last day of summer finally so I am in no rush for the Ford so I want to only have to deal with external issues in the driveway. He said the 3000 looks and sounds very nice and shows little wear to be 51 years old so I expect the tractor must have been retired from more field work long ago. I am excited to get brakes that will lock up and turn on a dime.
Friday I talked with the local shop that has had the 265 MF since Aug for fuel line and power steering leaks. I was told it would be a month before they would get it into the shop but they have had repeated delays. I had told them to forget changing the UTF so they could get it back faster. Friday they were waiting for the hydraulic oil filter to come in then so they could change the UTF they said it should be good to go. Hey they are handy for parts and stuff at least. There is another 3-4 man shop that are good on old iron as well so for service work if needed in the future we have better and the 5 mile away shop.
