Hi -

First time poster - been lurking for awhile. :)

Need some help deciding what tractor to buy. This will be my first tractor and I currently live on 3.5 acres in NH. Will eventually be moving down south in a couple more years with probably 5-15 acres.

I'm looking for a machine that can do FEL work, driveway maintenance (400') brush clearing, eventually mowing and maybe brush hogging/mowing on larger acerage in the future.

I really like the idea of having a cab, mainly because I hate the heat of the summer, bugs, etc as well as the fact that our winters get pretty cold here. I also like the fact that weather becomes a non-issue to getting work done.

I've narrowed down to 3 models. One brand new and two that are lightly used. Budget is in the 30K range.

The three models are:

Kioti CS3510 2018SE HST cab model with loader brand new from dealer
Loaded tires
Price including delivery (60mi): 29,125

2015 Kioti NX4510 HST Cab with loader- 150 hours on it - private sale
Loadeed Tires
Price including delivery $28000

2016 Kuboto L3560 HST Cab with L805 loader - 150 hours - private sale
SB 1574 Snow blower
FDR 1660 finish mower
Delivered price (180mi) $28700

To each of these I would probably add a 50" worksaver grapple with lines and electric control to loader joystick plus a 72" box blade. The kioti dealer quoted me about $4300 - $3400 for grapple/lines/electrics installed, and $900 for 72" box blade.

So, is it worth it to buy new and get dealer support, even though they're 60 miles away? Or is it a better deal to get the NX or Kubota? I can't seem to come to a decision because each is tempting in it's own way.

Thanks in advance-
Dana

I own a Kubota L3560 open station tractor, with LA805 Loader. HST/PLUS is a wonderful transmission. LA805 is powerful.

Ample weight for ground contact work. Optimum Box Blade width with R4/industrial tires is 66". Optimum weight 650 to 800 pounds. You will need 650 to 900 pounds Three Point Hitch counterbalance to max LA805 loads. Cab weight = loaded tires.

Marginal power for PTO powered implements.

Cab adds 500 pounds. AC uses some engine power. You will be limited to a 60" Rotary Cutter/Bush Hog. I cannot speak to the snowblower.

L3560 is too tall to enter typical residential garage.

$28,700 is a very, very good price for the cab tractor and implements.

Where is PETERBOROUGH?

Thanks for the reply... Peterborough is in NH - southern part of the state. Yeah the 28,700 for the Kubota is really 28K even - I'm figuring it's going to cost me about $700 to ship it the 150 or so miles if I buy it...

Hey welcome aboard....
I'm a fairly new owner as well and started with a CK4010HST. This Thursday will be trading up to a NX4510HST.
The Ck model has worked well for the 269 hours in the last 14 months. However, root grubbing brings the machine to a dead stop. The wider and heavier machine will provide the needed weight and torque to put to the ground.

So, in the future there will be many new surprises that one may not anticipate and having a machine a tad undersized will become kindah well...heh..frustrating.
Wishing I'd bought next size up. Which I did, heh went from the CK35 to the CK4010 and thought I did good. Ha...
So the CK series is a compact category machine and the NX a utility category.
It is a much more stout machine and will on average not be working it near its max capacity as one would with the CK series. Well for me I worked the CK4010 at its upper level capability.

Having said all that, 15 acres of unknown terrain and unknown work that will be required of the machine I'd opt for the NX.
It can still be towed by a half ton truck and pulled by a 10k trailer.
A new NX until 31Mar has a free loader with it for about 25,999 or so and one rear remote and loads of features for dirt work like draft control which helps with plowing and can be used with BB.
Well, all the best in your search...
hope this helps a tad coming from a rookie that is..:D

Theee different size/weight machines:

Kioti CK3510 = 3300lbs
Kubota L3560 = 3880lbs
Kioti NX4510 = 4558lbs

I don't say this often but for 3.5 acres these machines are quite large. Where are you going to park the tractor? None of them will fit in a standard garage. Do you need to drive it across your lawn? get it into tight spaces? Towing? Fully ballasted and with implements the trailer could be pushing 10,000lbs.

I'd recommend the CK3510 or at most the L3560.

I have a pole barn so parking shouldn't be an issue. I don't anticipate I'll be doing much in the woods, but more cleared areas and trails that are wide enough for a car- it's more for the next property I'll have which will be 5-10 acres or more. In the meantime I'll be clearing snow from my 400' driveway with this machine (and grading it), as well as spreading mulch/dirt and other work where I need the FEL. I agree the machine is on the larger side for what I need now, but I dont want to have to trade in later - I picture the NX as being the right sized machine for what I will need a few years from now - but I could probably make any of them work. I like the fact that someone else has taken a fairly significant depreciation hit (20% or so) for pretty low hours tradeoff. I would htink that probably translates into the used machines holding their value for me better down the road should I ever need to sell. All 3 of these machines have R4 tires so hopefully I won't tear up the lawn much as long as it's dry...

i have two thoughts. do with them what you will.

#1 you say you are moving south how far south? southern NH, MA or south like FL, GA, AL. would it make sense to buy a smaller tractor now learn on it, sell it and then buy a bigger one when you get where you're going?

#2 you say this is your first tractor, do you have tractor experience? if not why not buy a smaller one learn what you like, don't like, what is a must have, what you can live without. then sell it move and buy what you really want after you have some experience.

buying a small used tractor now, learning, taking care of it you should be able to get your money (or very close to it) back in a few years.

I just purchased a new Kioti CK4010SEHC for working my 27.5 acres here in Central Texas. It is my first tractor and the learning curve is definitely present. So far I have no regrets about tractor size and believe it was perfect for what I needed. As 60% of the lot is densly wooded; the larger tractor is hindering access due to his bigger size. So I am comfortable with the smaller tractor.

My tractor implement work runs as follows : 40% rotary cutter for field and brush clearing. 30% Box Blade for mainly building and then maintenance of 2100 feet of gravel road. 30% is post hole digger work for replacing 3100' of fence line and adding two security gates. Each implement has a learning curve. With just 3 Acres, the smaller tractor is best.....and will help develop your expertise on your first tractor.

I'm doing general clean-up, mowing, and maintenance on somewhere around 16-18 acres with a CK35. Sometimes I wish it was bigger but it gets the job done. One factor for us was that this was a second tractor and moving up to a 40+ HP tractor would have meant buying all new (to us) implements instead of being able to keep using what we already had.

In your position just starting out, my pick would be the NX4510

Here's the Specs of the NX4510 vs the CK3510

Length w/ 3-point hitch 139.6 in. (3,547 mm) - 120.9 in. (3,070 mm)
Width 65.6 in. (1,665 mm) - 54.5 in. (1,385 mm)
Height from Top of ROPS Cab 94.1 in. (2,390 mm) - 91.7 in. (2,330 mm)
Wheelbase 75.6 in. (1,920 mm) - 65.7 in. (1,670 mm)
Ground Clearance 13.7 in. (350 mm) - 13.4 in. (340 mm)
Front Tread Ag Tires - Min 55.2 in. (1,352 mm) - 48.2 in (1,225 mm)
Rear Tread Ag Tires - Min 52.1 in. (1,324 mm) - 47.6 in. (1,210 mm)
Turning Radius w/ Brake 9.81 ft. (2.99 m) - 8 ft. (2.4 m)

While the NX is a bigger tractor - it's not substantially bigger but it is heavier & more HP both of which are good things for ground engaging work. Also since it is used does it have any "upgrades" that the new CK won't have (standard) like rear remotes?

Being a higher series, the NX will have more "frills" that the CK and for the amount of tractor per dollar spent I think it's the best deal of the three. It may be a little big on just 3.5 acres but once you move to the larger space I think you'll be happy with it.
