Default Re: How Big Do I need?

Several years ago I bought an 8N to help me clear the land where my home is presently located. That little tractor saved me so many hours of labor by leveling, hauling, cutting, etc. When I got my property ready for the home I decided to sell the tractor and buy a nice mower to keep up the grounds. Was that ever a mistake! I can't tell you the number of times that I wished I had kept that 8N. I never had any maintenance problems, I never had to resharpen blades, I never had to constantly add air to the tires, I never had to buy belts. I now have another tractor and don't see how I survived so long without one. I guess my point is this: living in a rural setting or living on a large piece of property (anything over an acre is large to me) one can't go wrong by owning some kind of tractor. My tractor has cut my working time by 1/4 and has practically eliminated my maintenance expense. Whatever you decide, good luck!

You might take a look at Power Trac, a good multi-purpose 4WD, articulated tractor made in VA. They have worked well for me.

I'm sure you could find many uses for a tractor in order to justify the purchase. Think of all the landscaping that new house will require - after doing my last house on 1/4 acre almost all by hand, I wasn't about to move to an acre that needs a lot of landscape work and not buy a nice little tractor.

For additional ideas on how to use your new tractor, take a look at this thread: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/s...b/5/o//fpart/1

I could have gotten away with just buying a small riding mower and getting a bunch of weekend rental machines over the next 2 years, and buying a large walk-behind rototiller for the garden, and for installing the lawn, but where's the fun in that?
