Tractor
Kubota BX 1500 and Bolens ST125
I went to several dealers Saturday. Looked at a BX22-1830, Massey2300 and a JD 2210. The TZ was quoted at $11,271 with 60" MMM. The BX 2230 w/ 60" MMM was $10,145 and the BX 1830 was $9,705 with 54" MMM. The JD 2210 was quoted at $13,999 with 62" MMM, FEL and for Saturday only, a box blade. I think the FEL was about $2800-$3000 option for the all the other tractors. All dealers had pros and cons for their units and others. The Massey seems to have rather high hydraulic flow 6.1 gpm vs the NH at 3.9 gpm. The NH guys says the Massey is foaming and burning the hydraulic fluid. The JD and the BX are rated 1 to 2 gpm lower. Not sure what/who to believe. I think I'm at the point where I might just get a large Lawn Tractor and rent equipment when I need. I'm confused....... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

BX1 you have every right to be confused.

Let me try to offer a bit of free advice. ALL 4 of the brands are excellent tractors. You will find supporters of each, and really no detractors of any. The Sub-CUT class of tractors are really all pretty well refined and nicely designed. For your choice, let your rear end and your fingers decide what is best. Buy what feels the best for you, but only if it is from a dealer who will support you. All are very capable. I have my personal choice, but I won't bother to share, simply because it is based on my feel for the machine and my feel for the dealer, not because of any logical reason!

I have a BX23 and it is a good tractor. I think Bob is right - you pretty much can't go wrong with any of the four tractors you mentioned. There is one thing though that I am going to throw out - if you are thinking about getting a FEL with whichever tractor you purchase you should look at the Deere - it is the only one of the SubCUT tractors that has a quick attach feature on the FEL bucket. This feature will come in very useful if you plan on using forks on the front, attaching a boompole, different bucket types etc.

The only thing that is burning is what he is smoking. Most of the specs on the Massey are slightly higher than the competition.

Ahhhhhh.....dealers are always good for cheap entertainment.

Just like Bird's - "thick steel" dealers comment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did notice that the MF had somewhat higher ratings across the board (flow, PTO HP, etc), and it appeared to achieve those higher ratings at a lower operating engine RPM. I would think that would equate to less stress on the engine and increase life and better fuel economy. Does that make sense? Thanks for the input from all. It is really appreciated.

The advice you are getting is sound, I would just interject my personal feelings. I would never purchase anything from a salesman who sells his product by knocking his competition. This is just my personal bias, but I am death on any salesman who bad mouths the competion. You can not go wrong with any of the choices you are looking at. Maybe the place you can go wrong is in dealer choice. Look hard at the dealer who sells you on service, not on the weakness of the competition. Kind of my soap box and all my humble opinion.

I agree. A GOOD salesperson can sell something on the merits of their own products, not by bringing up the drawbacks of the competition.

Information versus Massey, check these things out, do your research.

The New Holland TZDA is a deluxe sub-compact tractor
with 22 and 25 gross engine horsepower. The TZ22DA
has 17 PTO hp while the TZ25DA has 19 PTO hp. The
TZDA has a 2-range hydrostatic transmission, a 3
cylinder diesel engine, standard independent rear and
mid PTO, and 54 or 60 in mid mount mowers are
available. The TZ22DA and TZ25DA are offered with
FWD and optional Sensitrak. The TZ25DA has the most
engine hp and PTO hp in the sub-compact industry.

Massey Ferguson offers one sub-compact tractor, the
GC2300, as a 22.5 gross engine horsepower tractor.
The GC2300 has 18.7 PTO hp. The GC2300 has a 2-
range hydrostatic transmission, a 3 cylinder diesel
engine, standard rear and mid PTO, and a 54 or 60 inch
mid mount mower is available. The GC2300 is offered
only in FWD.

NH Sensitrak FWD Option
Benefits
• Automatically engages FWD when tractive conditions
require increased pulling power and disengages
FWD when extra traction is no longer
required
• Automatic FWD saves grass and turf, saves tires,
increases drive line life and decreases drive line
wrap up
Value
• The ultimate in turf friendly control, Sensitrak is a
New Holland exclusive
• Provides traction when you need it, just “set it and forget it.

Massey tractor
No Sensitrak FWD Option
• Operator must decide when tractive conditions
require the use of FWD. Inevitably, turf will be
damaged. Increased wear and tear on tires and
driveline components.

Massey tractor
Massey Ferguson Operator’s Station
• Mower deck cutting height adjustment is located

be difficult to adjust and hard to read while the
operator is on the seat.
• Less spacious platform. Controls are not embossed
with their function, making operation
difficult for the novice operator.
• Safety seat switch is not adjustable for weight
• Seat is on a horizontal plane, which equals poor
visibility relative to the TZDA
• 12-volt power socket is not offered
• Cup holder and storage bin are not offered

NH Automotive Style Dash
Benefits
• Large, easy to read display is centered on the dash
• Tachometer is center display
• Indicator lights include a glow plug indicator, battery
charge indicator, and engine oil pressure

each can be optimized
• Minimizes pedal effort and provides ease of use for
every operator
Value
• Provides the best performance and most convenient
operation
• Allows easy control of speed and direction

Massey Single Pedal Treadle
• Old technology and awkward actuation
• Not as comfortable as a dual pedal hydro, especially for older or novice operators.

Optional Cruise Control
Benefits
• Electronic cruise control is optional, providing extra
comfort and convenience
Value
• When mowing large areas cruise control is ideal.
Remember, 90% of sub-compacts will have a mid
mount mower!
• Cruise control is an affordable option at $150* List

Massey
Cruise Control N/A
• When mowing large areas, the operator will likely
experience discomfort without the convenience of
cruise control. This discomfort may be exacerbated
by the single-pedal treadle.

fuel can into the fuel tank, so that the owner will not
have a half-full can of diesel sitting around the home

Massey Ferguson Fuel Tank Capacity
• A 5.5 gal (21.0L) fuel tank means less operating
time before fueling up
• Unless the tractor is running on fumes, it will be
difficult to empty an entire five gallon can into the massey

TZDA Ground Clearance
Benefits
• Without the mower deck, the ground clearance is
9.1”
• With the mower deck, the ground clearance is 6”
Value
• The operator can box blade, roto-till or perform any
number of jobs with the rear 3-PT while leaving the
mid-mount mower attached to the tractor
• Without the mid-mount mower, the TZ has considerably
more ground clearance than the GC2300
which allows the operator to work in more rough areas.

GC2300 Ground Clearance
• The ground clearance w/o the mid-mount mower
is 6.7”, considerably less than the TZ
• The ground clearance with the mid-mount mower
is 5.9”
• Less likely to allow operation where clearance is needed.

New Holland Lighting
Benefits
• Two dual beam halogen headlights
• Two halogen corner worklights
• Turn signals and flashing warning lights
Value

Check out these areas and I think you will find the NH is a nicer overall package. If your just going to do this once, make sure you take a look at the above comparisons.
