Erik, you have a real "apples to oranges" comparision here in these 2 tractors. The JD 3320 is much more favorably compared to the Kubota L3130. In fact the L3130 use to be the king of the hill in terms of capacity for the roughly 30ish HP tractors, but the JD3320 looks to have greater capacity than the L3130. The B7800 is an ultra-light weight, modest capacity 30hp tractor, that is small in size, turns a very tight circle and is easy to trailer. The JD3320 is probably the heaviest of the 32hp tractors I know of, it weighs 1000 pounds more than B7800 and has the 3pt capacity to lift the B7800 off the ground. The Kubota loader is modest in its capacity but it is well suited to the B7800, I use the same loader on a B2910, which is essentially a deluxe version of the B7800 that was just discontinued and replaced by the B3030. The B7800 is a great little tractor for what it is, but if you are looking for capacity then the JD3320 can stomp on the B7800. I got a chance to look over some of the new JDs at the local dealer, they are very impressive machines, very nicely laid out. The new CX loaders are also a big improvement over their previous models.

To get a real idea of the differences between the JD3320 and the B7800, go back to your Kubota dealer, ask them to park a B7800 next to an L3130 and check out both machines side by side. The L3130 is going to be roughly the size/weight/capacity of the JD3320.

You need to decide if you have light tasks or heavy tasks, let the tasks decide which tractor is the better fit for you.

yeah, what Bob said.

If you want the Kubota, it is easy to get some bids to make it look lijke an amazing deal. Same for the deere. You could say that they must really be great if the Kubota includes so much more for a little more money...

BTW, be sure and post specifics, WHAT Backhoe? which boxblade? There are big differences...

Mike, far be it from me to correct you, but you really made a huge mistake in your above statement. The reality is there are not 'big' differences, more correctly stated there are BIG differences! On something as simple as a box blade, one manufacturer can have 3 or more different quality levels.

By the way, just a little disclaimer to Erik, I do not own a John Deere tractor, however I do have Kubota & New Holland compact tractors.

Just my opinion, but I would look at the John Deere 2210 or the Kubota BX series tractors for 2.5 acres. If you feel those are too small (they are not, but they do have minimal ground clearance), then you might want to look at the JD4110 or the Kubota B7510, all these are light enough for mowing without tearing up the lawn, but capable of doing what you ask, and still small in size so you will not need a second mowing tractor after the projects are done. On the 4110 & 7510 you would get slighly taller frames with similar power and appropriate size for the property.

Both of the B7800 and 3320 are much more ideally suited for 10 to 20 acres.

You should also take a look at Kioti's ck20 or ck30.

socallly:

I'm am very much a newbie to tractors, but have been looking in the same range that you are. The difference between a B7800 and a JD 3320 is the difference between a nicely equiped Ford Ranger and a power-everything Ford F150 Lariat. The tractors I have found that compare best to the JD 3320 are the New Holland TC33DA, Kubota L3400 and Kioti CK30.

Also, having radically different attachment setups on each of the tractors you are comparing makes it very difficult to judge how "good" your offers are.

Personally *I'm* still trying to decide if the B7800 is enough for me or if I need something more, and I haven't found anything that matches up well with the B7800, except maybe the New Holland TC30 Hydro.

I'm not making any kind of recommendation here, although for 2.5 acres the 3320 sounds like serious overkill.

cart99 . . . For what it is worth, I'd like to make a slight modification to your list. The Kubota L3400 is one of their budget tractors, comparing it to fully featured tractors is really going to make the L3400 look pretty bad. It has power, but not features.

The Deere 3320 is 32.5hp, 25.5 PTO hp, weight = 2900#, 3pt lift 2500#+
The Kubota L3130 is 32.1hp, 25.5 PTO hp, weight =2750#, 3pt lift 2200#
The Kioti CK30 is 30hp, 24 PTO hp, weight =3040#, 3pt lift 1765#
The NH TC33DA is 33hp, 28.6 PTO hp, weight = 2590#, 3pt lift 1635#

From the above specs you can probably tell that these are still fairly different machines despite some similarities. The TC has the lightest weight and highest PTO power, but lowest lift capacity. The CK30 has the heaviest weight, lowest PTO and slightly more lift capcity. The JD and Kubota both are significantly greater in the 3pt lift capacity with the JD leading by a good margin, and offering similar PTO power.

I did not compare wheelbase dimensions, largely because they are misleading as they do not seem to relate to either overall size or turning radius, the TC is the smallest and tightest turning with the SuperSteer option, the CK30 and L3130 are within 2" of each other for L.O.A. with the L3130 topping out at 124" without loader.

Now in terms of features the L3400 doesn't really match up to the above machines, but in terms of the specs above it has the following:
34.7hp, 29 PTO hp, 2400 weight, 1435 3pt capacity

Clearly 2 of the machines have more capacity than the others in terms of lift. On the other hand, a different 2 machines have more available PTO power than the others. So if you want a high weight capacity machine, choose either the JD3320 or the Kubota L3130. If you have PTO implements that require more power, the Kubota L3400 and the TC33DA are the clear winners. All this assumes price is no object. The L3400 is going to be a lower price, as is the CK30, so when budget overrides other issues, those will likely be the choices (realizing pricing is regional).
