TN70, JD5320-5420, ??

I have looked over several brands of tractors lately trying to decide about getting a new tractor. I have about 25 acres to maintain most of which is pasture. I currently mow with my 42 hp Ford tractor. I want a FEL and my tractor is not suited for me (my opinion) to do so. I want larger HP tractor so that I can bale hay if needed.

I have looked at JD5420 and 5320's and also NH TN70-75's. I can get the 5320 and the TN 70 for same money nearly and also the 5420 is about 34k loaded. I would like some opinions on prices that you have seen.

Those are all great machines. I would concentrate on the dealer. With the wrong dealer, any of those can be a real pain.

In Utility tractors, you can often save a lot going used, with CUTs it is a different story...

Finally, do you have more land? I have a hard time seeing the expense to set up to bale a portion of 25 acres...

I have 25 ac of pasture. I keep up about three or four more acres of land mowing, etc. I would only want to bale for my own purpose not to sell really unless I have no need for the additional hay.

I have looked over the 5420, 04 model 2 remotes, FEL, 72" bucket, canopy, brush guard, for $31 asking. New 5425 for $34k.

The NH TN70 with large pump same as above for $29, the TN75 for $30.

These are the only local dealers. I have talked to Kioti, they are about 28 for the DK65. The MF 471 is 29 as well. I really dont like the MF. Too bulky. I like the JD but dang its pricey.

I currenty will buy hay for another year or so at least. I originally looked 5320 JD's. Like the tractor just wonder if its big enough.

I have a 3930 Ford now. Its ok nothing in the world wrong with it but in my opinion its just not heavy in enough in the front end to hand heavy bales or loads. Eventually it will takes it toll. I will keep what I have before buying another 45 PTO hp tractor thats why I was looking at 5420, TN75 etc.

In my opinion, the New Holland TN is best-in-class. Deere knows that the New Holland has a lot going for it. They have come out with newer models that have gotten closer to the New Holland. The 5025-series is the best attempt yet, but still not quite there.

How about looking into the CaseIH JX1070C? (Did I get the model number correct? These alpha-numeric model numbers are getting downright upsetting!) The CaseIH is virtually the same tractor as the New Holland, but the dealer would likely be different. The CaseIH dealers in my area would enter into my buying decision. There are some terrific CaseIH dealer organizations in SE PA.

One thing I dont like on the new holland is the tire size on the front. It seems rather large compared to the deere 5320.

When I was shopping I compared the TN75A, JD5420, and the Kubota M8200. I liked the 5420, but couldn't justify the price (about $3K more than the TN75). The M8200 has good HP, lifting capacities, and was slightly cheaper than the TN75 new. I liked the look and layout of the TN75 and it's still plenty strong enough for what I wanted. I wound up getting a great deal on a "special" lease return, which made it about $3K cheaper than the Kubota so I couldn't pass it up.

So far I love the TN75 (I've put over 40 hours on it so far). It has done everything I've wanted it to do and some things I never should have done. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Right now on a TN70 w/Fel, Canopy, 72" bucket, bale spear, large pump 16.9 and 72" Heavy Duty Mower for 30400. I like the layout alot. The only dealers here locally are NH, JD, and Massey. All are good dealers.

I'm curious as to why a small bucket (6 foot), and small mower (6 foot), for a bigger tractor? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

When I was shopping last year for utility tractor I found New Holland to the most variety when it came to tire sizes. I have 12.5X20 fronts and 16.9X28 rears. Very happy with my choice.

I compared the same tractors a couple of years ago. Could not make up my mind, until I sat on each one. The NH just did not fit me right, and my son, who is taller then me said he felt crowded on the NH. So go climb on and drive them around the lot and see which one is more comfortable to you. I think they are all good tractors.
