Need a little help on make the right choice on a tractor

It's the 4wd which drives up the price. Handy if you need it though. I have seen JD 5103 2wd loaders new on Tractorhouse.com at very low prices but they are always half way across the country from me.

I have 46 acres and a 52 HP Long LongTrac, new in 2002.
It has a 3 cylinder diesel and the implements it can handle are 7 foot or smaller. It takes me four 6 hour days to cut and 5 days to disk with my six foot RC/6' disk. I do love that Longtrac, it was $12,900 (no longer in US as new sales) I would gladly trade it for a old junker 100 HP. It's way to small to hay with and after 6 or 7 hours and no end in sight I get a little short tempered and hit the go fast. On my hilly land with rutts, that's not good.

I would look for a CASE IH 886 or bigger you can find these in good shape for 12.5K. They are 80HP (I think) and the 1086 is 120HP. Restored 1086 is available at 15.75K.

Don't get too small, see the other thread about a guy want to trade up, no takers (dealer) can he find for his recent purchase.

Yikes.. 4 6hr days!! That begs for a 10-12-15-20' mower, and then you could cut the thing in at least a day somewhere between 12hrs to 7 hrs..

I agree about the old HP being cheap.. sometimes you can find good beaters inthe 80-150 hp range for pennies on the dollar..

My dad purchased an AC 8050 about 5 years ago for $12K...
Tractor had around 4K hours on it but ran well...
My dad sold this tractor new for over 60K in the 80's...
150 PTO HP with an air conditioned cab...
Bush Hogging is easy...

Before i bought my NH 7610s, i was eyeing a few machines.. A large 100+ hp MF, an older Case 1xxx model, a ford 8000, and a ford TW model.. all cheap hp. I really should hopped on the ford 8000.. it ran good, though had a minor pto issue.. but i think that could have been fixed without monumental hassle. The unit was something like 4000$.. or 4900$ Also the guy had a brand new, old stock, never used 15 flexwing hog.. rhino i think.. though could have been BH. All it needed was the main drive shaft from the tractor to the front gearbox. He wanted 1200$ for the mower. I should have bought both.. or at least the mower.. But at the time, I didn't want to get just the mower.. then not end up with anough tractor to run it.. as I was also looking at a ford 5000 down the street... which was literally sold out from under me. oh well.. eveything eventually worked out.

Congrats on your new (to you) MF-165. Nice looking machine.
Last July I bought a 1966 MF-135 diesel locally for $3600. Am now rewiring and repainting that honey. Your 165 looks to be in a lot better shape than my 135 was when I got it.

Yes I am pleased so far with it wish it was diesel it was well taking care of it got a little over 3000 hrs on it. No smoke or blow by its a big improvement on any other tractor I have owned.

Good luck on that repaint and wire I want to see a picture when you get it done. I am looking for a loader for mine now.
