I had considered getting a tractor with 3 rear remote hydraulic valves instead of 1 or 2. If I remember correctly I don't think the price was that much different. But would they be utilized? I really can find almost no tractors that have the 3rd remote installed. 2 remotes tends to be the most common. So I have all but abandoned the idea of 3 remotes and will most assuredly go with 2. That would seem to be enough for just about any need that would arise. I guess if you had a batwing mower you could raise/lower the mower and operate each wing independently with 3 remotes. But I don't know if that's necessary or even practical. I can't really think of any other situations where one would use 3 remotes.

If anyone has a tractor with 3 remotes or has any thoughts or insight on the practicality and usefulness of 3 rear hydraulic remotes please comment.

Hey Glowplug,
I have three remotes on my tractor.

I installed them myself thinking cost wise it was only a few bucks more to do at the time than just 2. I thought I would surely use the 3rd remote for something, but so far, the most I use at one time is 2 for my hydraulic box blade. However, if I ever do need a 3rd remote, it's there. And like I said, since I put them on myself the cost was minimum to do it then. I am contemplating another project to build a "Gutter Cutter" that may have several hydraulic functions on it. I hope so anyway, so I can use that 3rd remote too.

I have three remotes on my Kubota L3430 and I use all three at times. I have a top link plug in one and a side link in another. That leaves me with one for implements.

I almost just bought one with the tractor but changed my mind the next day and called the dealer to get all three. And i am glad I did! Better to have too many than not enough.

Glowplug,

I have always been into overkill, but for the life of me, I cannot imagine ever needing three remotes at one time. I would find some other toy to spend my money on. ;)

I forgot to mention that I have 2 hydraulic side links and a hydraulic top link. However, the side links are plumbed to a separate valve, so I still have 2 remotes available for implements in addition to the one used for the hyd top link when I use it.
You can see here the hyd side links are plumbed to the left, leaving al 3 remotes open on the right.

I'm unfamiliar with the setup you're describing. I am talking about 3 separate remotes from your 3-point hitch. Are you counting your 3-point hitch hydraulics? The kind of deal I am envisioning is with the hydraulics to the 3ph used to raise and lower the side and top link arms. Then 3 separate remote valves to be used for control of hydraulics on implements. I may be just misunderstanding your explanation. Me confused.

Sorry for the bad explanation, Glowplug. I do mean three remotes separate from the three point hitch. The top link is a cylinder that replaces the three point top link so you can adjust it with hydraulics instead of by hand. The side link is also a cylinder that replaces one of my links on the three point hitch to tilt implements like box blades. This is referred to as a "Top n Tilt" system which you can search and find lots of posts about here on TBN.

Anyway, I operate both with two factory option remote valves which leaves me with one free for implements. I could remove one or both when not needed, but I prefer to leave them hooked up.

Thanks ksmmoto. That makes sense now. Your setup actually makes me want to get 3 remotes! I see the usefulness outside of just implement control.

I use 3 rear hydraulics. Two used for TNT cylinders. The 3rd gets used for either a rear implement (box blade, or straight blade) or whatever else (hydraulic tamper). The 3rd also gets used for hydraulics on my utility grapple or hydraulics on snow blade when on the FEL. Once in a while I need to disconnect one of the TNT cylinders if I use the grapple and also want to angle my rear blade. My rear blade actually can be used with 3 cylinders to vary the angle, side to side placement or to tilt the blade but I only use the angle with a cylinder. It really depends on you future plans how many connections you may need (or really need).
Some factory rear hydraulic setups can be added on top the existing control valves like on my Case-IH DX29. Others like my previous Kubota, could only be bought as one, two or three valve setup. On the kubota it was way too expensive to change from 1 or 2 connections to full 3 rear hydraulics. I originally bought a setup for 2 but later wished I had 3. The DX29 had one when I bought it but was easy to add a second.

I have two remotes and wish I had three so I would not have to unplug one to utilize the grapple when I have my top and tilt BB on. At the time I bought my tractor I could not think of a use for that third remote which was several hundred dollars more. Now I keep saying that as soon I have to take the tractor in for service I will add the third remote. That was three years ago, the tractor won't break.
