I have been leaning toward a new L3400 for all the reasons you buy new, but see a clean NH 1920 (800 hours) and a JD 1070 w/Curtis Cab in the 12,500-13,000 range on dealer's lots.

Primary use is going into the woods and chipping, so the higher pto hp of the older tractors is attractive. I will be on the ground feeding the chipper so the cab may be more of a problem with the trees and storing the tractor.

Up to now, new has been worth $3,000 more than the average 12,000 used tractor, but the higher hp of these two is tempting me. Normally the 0% would be a factor but the disappearing rebate offsets a lot of the 0% savings.

Any cautions on a 1920 or a 1070?

Thanks,
Cal

I bought an L3400 last year at this time. I would have definitely bought used, but even financing my machine for 5 yrs at 5.99% was a better option than any kind of generic loan from the bank, plus the warranty. You can also finance any extra implements at the same low rate too.

Also just the fact that I know EXACTLY what has been done with my tractor is comforting.

I had a 1920.. very good tractor.. however.. unless it has a loader and is 4wd and a 12x12 shuttle.. I don't think it would be worth 13k$

My 720hr, 4x4 12x4 tranny unit cost me 9500$.. it was a 97 model... pretty minty too.

If the NH is in great shape,I'd go that way. Have you checked out the Korean Brands yet? Often times more bang for your buck, especially with Kioti.

Thanks for the comments. The 1920 has a 7308 loader, not sure about the tranny yet. Easy buy decision under 10k but my brother paid $8500 for a 1710 with mower and rake.

Haven't seen a Koiti dealer but the JD dealer has Mahindra, didn't see much of a price savings over a basic 790/3400 tractor.

The laoder sweetens the deal considerably. 4x4?

4x4 with loader? They are gonna get full retail outta that baby and they know it. Personally, I like the 1920 series from New Holland. It is the bigger brother to my 1720. They are wonderful tractors. Offer a little less and see what they do. I can tell you that those units are hard to find for sale let alone in good condition. Somebody's gonna buy it. Probably sooner than later. Good luck.

Yes, 4x4 with loader. The dealer had been pretty straight forward with me on previous used tractors and hasn't hesitated to say when one had some issues. And they tend to stay pretty close to their asking price. Their 600+ hour 1520 has an $11,000 asking price, makes the 1920 look like a bargin at 12,500.

Chappell in New Hampshire has a 2600 hour '89 1920 for 12,900 and a 1200 hour '99 1920 for 15,900. Maybe you can make a buck buying tractors in the south and selling them up north.

Other than the 1920's greater weight, the other numbers are about the same as an L3400. I think I need to save more than $3000 to give up new and a multi year warrenty.
