Anyone had any experience with this baler. Bought one yesterday, do I need the gathering wheels? Any good sources for parts and owner manuals?

Thanks for your help

The Case-IH 8420 makes a 39" wide x 54" tall bale the same as its Hesston 530 twin.

The Case-IH 8430 makes a 47" wide x 51" tall bale the same as its Hesston 540 twin.

My experience is with the Hesston 540 and that did a good job of picking up the double windrow (18' worth) without gathering wheels but it has a little bit wider pickup. I think you will be fine if you are only baling single windrows. Just make sure you have good uniform windrows. If you want to bale double windrows I think you will need the gathering wheels. Otherwise you can make a few double windrows and try it that way you won't have to fight the entire field if the baler can't pick up the entire width of the windrow.

They are nice balers and if the gathering wheels are not very much money then add them if you want or try it first then go from there.
