Friend of mine has an IH 454 (probably 72 - 73 vintage) with a slight oil leak at transmission.I found the leak , but for the life of me cant find how to check level.I,ve been bellhousing to drawbar and cant find level plug, dipstick or sight gage.Fill and drain are no problem but level has me stumped.Search on line and all I can find are manuals for sale but no information.Any ideas .

Thanks Jeff

I can't say specifically about the 454, but I have a Case IH with the same basic trans and the stick is behind your left heel up next to the trans housing. My owners manual says to run the engine at 1600 RPM for 3 minutes, stop the engine, and check the fluid. This gets the fluid up in the trans and all the lines for a proper check.

Thanks Gene, you are correct.I must of looked at that a dozen times but with all the grime and dirt on it I thought was some kinda engagement lever and didnt try to pull it out. Thanks again.
