Tractor
Case Intl. 245
Hi all.... My neighbor has a problem with his 87 case IN 245. It shifts as if the fork fingers are not in the correct place.
This tractor is 4 wheel drive with 3 ranges for speed and a three speed transmission. Anyone have a idea as to what may have happened. It did it all the sudden with no apparent noise when it happened.

Thanks in advance! Butch

this won't help you much, but I just spent 2 grand putting a new clutch and shifting fork in my IH 255, and I'm told this is not unusual, particularly if the tractor was not shed kept or out of the weather. The shifting fork and pressure plate on mine were rusty and a mess, with major wear on the fork, had to be replaced. That may have been the only problem but once the tractor was split in half, it made sense to change it all out. I kept the old clutch which wasn't badly worn after 1000 hours. Anyone have a need for it?

here's a pic of the worn shifter fork from my 255. New fork, new clutch, tractor runs like a dream. The fork looked like it worked its way over a little, didn't line up properly, and constantly wore metal off. Why, I have no idea.
But for a tractor with only a 1000 hours, this seems like a weak part to me.
