Welding thumb onto Case 580k

I have a Case580k and want to weld an Excalibur 36" thumb onto the dipper, however, the manual says not to weld anything onto parts that are ductile iron. The operator's manual (attached) seems to indicate that the dipper is made of ductile iron. Anyone have any insight into whether i can do this or not? I've heard from some that its okay....
Thx
Ron

Re: Welding thumb onto Case 580k
Any casted parts would be the ductile iron. Where a thumb would mount would be plate steel so you should be OK.
