So I just bought a 1997 case ih 3230, but have not picked it up yet. when testing it everything seemed fine except for when in neutral and the clutch released it rattles. has 8x8 shuttle. wasn't too worried about it, but was wondering if anybody had any ideas.

Clutch should not rattle!!

Just a thouht!! If the engine low idle tickover is too low you can get a rattle from the gearbox syncroniser plates ??

Low idle should ideally be 800 to 850 rpm and on this 3 cyl engine is better at 850'. It is vibration fron the 3 cylinder engine that causes the syncro plates to rattle at low engine rpm??

Do you need a service manual?? I do a manual as a PDF down load and accept payment through PayPal !! Drop me a P M with your e mail address for deatails!!

It's a 4 cyl engine and it does it at all rpms.

Under the bell housing is a metal plate, just to the rear of the engine/ transmission joint, remove this and hav a look at what you can see, a powerful torch or work light will help!!
