Hello,
We just found a 1960's 24HP IH 504 w/ hydraulic front end loader ,rear grading blade,PTO, and liquid filled tires well maintained for $3500. Please look at our bio. Is this the tractor for us? Is this a good price? What else might we need?
We're new to this site and tractors in general--I also posted this in Buying/pricing.

Thanks!! Kyle and Kristen

I have seen a couple of those 504, one thing I can tell you it is definitely more than 24HP, more like 45-50. I believe you could get those with either gas or diesel engines, diesel being the preferred ones , $3500 would be a fair price IF its diesel and in real good shape.

When I responded on the other forum, I looked at that "24hp" instead of the "504" and if it really is a 504, it's a lot more horsepower, as mentioned above, at least if it has the 4 cylinder diesel engine.

I responded in the other forum too. Is it the Farmall or International version? The International is a low-pro. The diesels hold up better and the gas ones are fuel pigs. Still a good tractor, and $3500 is actually about average if it is in decent shape and everything works. It's up to you, but I definitely would shy away from gas jobs.

An IH 504 has 46 PTO horsepower, weighs 4600 lbs. and was produced from 1960 to 1968. Sounds like a good, solid utility tractor for your property.
Look at it this way, that tractor has fully depreciated. Buy it. If you later discover that it doesn't fit the bill, start looking for something else. You can always sell it for close to what you paid for it. Result: very little risk.
