last winter i had to always heat the solenoid for it to start so i took apart this summer and greased up the piston with motor oil because it was dry, i was thinking that was the issue, but today -15c and i have to heat again, do i need a new solenoid? thanks for input I looked on line and no one seems to have this issue.

I would say if it isn't cranking you have a solenoid issue! Not normal but it does happen on that age of machinery!

I have several tractors that do that below -20 . Behaves like a flat battery but heat the solenoid/starter and away they go .
