Engine Problem
We have a case IH 895, and we have just had to replace one of the big end bearings, was running fine after but then soon lost power, loud knocking noise, sounds like its down on a cylinder, pouring out black smoke and sparks coming out of exhaust, seems to be igniting in exhaust, took head off again and pistons and valves look fine, can anyone suggest any ideas?

Re: Engine Problem
Sounds like injection timing or an injector itself.

Re: Engine Problem
I have been told by a mechanic if its white smoke its fuel if its black its oil. Take the oil pan off and see if any thing came loose.

Re: Engine Problem
Should have left it together and first try cracking individual inj lines to find affected cylinder. One which makes no difference in performance is bad one. Then you can swap that inj with another cyl and see if problem moves with same test. Most likely just dribbling inj or delivery valve problem. If delivery valve, problem will stay in same position.
