I'm looking at a Super A Farmall. It is a 1951 model and it has a new carburetor. The main problem is the tractor will not idle; the engine runs almost wide open. I'm wondering if it is the linkage from the governor or a problem within the governor????

I would like to purchase the tractor and use it for cultivation purposes only.

Has anyone had a similar experience with a Farmall tractor??

Thanks,
Smitty

That is the only reason for that to happen! You might want to check the shaft to see if the bushings are good and other wise remove the cover and check the springs on the weights.

Thanks Thomas,
Smitty the Super A is a great tractor !

There is an adjustment on the linkage between the govenor and the carb.Tractor off. Disconnect the pin in the clevis going to the carb. I believe when your speed control lever is wide open and the rod on the carb is at full throttle adjust the clevis so the pin will line up with the holes in the clevis. I will check my manual tommorrow. If thats not it, it might be your thrust bearings in your govenor housing ! I will check !

Mornin Smitty,
The procedure I gave in the post above should get your linkages adjusted properly. If that fails to cure your problem, then we will have to look at other potential problem areas !

Thanks Scott,
I haven't bought the tractor yet, but I probably will.
I'll get back over there and see if that will fix it.

Thanks,
Smitty
