I use the oregon mounted sharpener also. I set it so it barely grinds any new metal. I can sharpen my chains many times before i toss them.
When i built my shooting backstop of used railroad ties, i had to resharpen after every 3-4 cuts. I was able to install entire backstop using (and trashing) one chain. The difference between before and after cuts were astounding. It always cuts like factory new chain after sharpening.
