    Default Chainsaw Question

I have a Husqvarna Rancher 18" bar that has cut many trees down over the last 8 years. I took ten good size pines down over Thanksgiving. The saw started speeding up when in idle mode once it got hot and eventually died. Once it cooled off it would start, run for 20 min then start to speed up on idle, kind of like they do when they are running out of fuel.

I have check everything I know to check but cannot find the problem. Can someone tell me what the cause and fix is?

I have a big Stihl that is 35 years old and use it to take trees down and cut into logs but like to use the Husky to trim limbs since it is a little lighter and has a chain brake.

I have 9 oaks and 3 more pine I need to take down this weekend. Trying to clear out around the site for workshop build that hopefully will start by Feb. Due to me being on top of a ridge and the wind direction these trees pose a risk of falling on the workshop.

    Gas tank vent?

The symptoms you describe (speeding up) is cause its leaning out from fuel starvation.

If the vent isnt clear, it will dry to draw an ever increasing vacuum until it gives up.

When it does it again, try cracking the gas cap and see if it comes out of it.

LD1 is probably right on. Vapor lock was the first thing that came to mind.

It's possible you may have an air leak that's leaning out the fuel making it run faster? If this condition is not identified and corrected (whatever is causing it), you'll eventually seize the motor & trash the saw.

That's a good start. I don't think I checked the fuel cap vent. I took everything else apart, but the vent makes sense. I will give that a try.

I will let you know what the fix is. However it will be Saturday before I can run it enough to know.
