    Default Jinma 354 Transmission

Has anyone replaced gears in Jinma 354 transmission? I've got it broke down to everything but the "Drive Gear Box Main Shaft". Primary is out, but have teeth missing on 2nd gear on Main Shaft. I believe the shaft comes out the rear... Do I need to tear entire rear end down to get that shaft out?? Any help or tricks would be greatly appreciated....
    Thanks..
    Greg

    Greg,

Call Tommy at Affordable Tractor Sales (713) 464-5521. He can tell you how to get it out and he has any parts you'll need.

    Greg,

I am so sorry that happened Any idea why the gear is missing teeth? did a shifter fork break and the broken part tore up the gear?

I am almost sure the entire rear end must come completely apart to get all the transmission gears out, and I mean every nut, bolt, gear and shaft of the rear-end, and then the same for the transmission.

A few years back another guy on our Chinese tractor Forum had an issue with his transmission, he took it completely apart and documented the whole thing . You will have to join the forum to see it (for free) I think it might be worth your effort to join for the pictures and documentation alone. Here is the direct link to the thread I am referring to:

I have the same exact problem- 2nd gear missing a tooth- I'm probably at the same exact stage too. 2003 JM-354 30 hp 395 engine. Brakes need to be fixed, clutch, 4 WD out also. Can't believe I have to dismantle everything to get the shaft out. Thought I was going crazy.

The nature of the beast (Chinese Jig saw puzzle) is that it must come completely apart. There is just not that many options to assemble a tranny and rear-end together on any brand tractor without it being as long as a limo. Don't procrastinate, just start ripping it apart being sure to make it as fun as possible taking and posting lots of pictures! I have a 2005 Jinma 354, and recently broke the first reverse shifter fork, fortunaalty for me I did not have to split the tractor, it did take about 4 hours to fish out the broken fork. The broken part had to be positioned exactly right to clear the gears. My petite daughter was the only saving grace I had. Her hands were small enough to reach in there and grab the part once positioned with a coat hanger. A magnet was worthless as it stuck to everything except what I was trying to remove.

    Good luck guys,

    Larry

    Larry,

When faced with that situation with a magnet, I have a trick that usually works. I glue a 1/4" diameter powerful neodymium magnet to the end of a wooden dowel or flexible plastic rod. Then I slip the rod inside a piece of appropriate-sized plastic tubing. With the magnet pulled back behind the end of the tubing, I can shove the whole works down into where it needs to be and then push the magnet clear of the tubing to grab the part.

That's pretty slick...I just bought appropriate magnets, and I have tubing in the floorboard of my car I salvaged from the dumpster..."I can use this for something...but WHAT?" Your idea is timely for me.
