You'll probably have to cut a hole in the hood and let the engine stick out on that one!

(I'm sure many would question why not a used Mazda engine vs. a tractor engine...)

If any of you are like me, then you enjoy finding out how much you can get out of your equipment. When I am running production machining jobs I enjoy finding ways to make the CNC mills run at the absolute maximum possible potential. On a large CNC mill it does no harm to the machine to run them that hard. (My last big CNC mill had over 8000 hrs of spindle time on it with no breakdowns!)

So when I was going to build a truck I wanted a commercial / industrial engine that should hold up to the same amount of "fun". That's the reason I did not go with a 'car' diesel.

Only time will tell if my selection was right. But so far the "fun" factor has been off the charts. Every morning I am just as excited to drive the truck as the first day I drove it. By far it has been the funnest project I have ever done.

I just put several new photos of the engine compartment and how it looks after 10k miles on "My Gallery". A little dirty but most everything is complete. I will be hooking up the A/C when it gets warmer.

Thanks,
-Dan-

Dan, real nice pics. Beautiful machine work and install. My compliments to you.
What year GMC is that in your gallery?

How much oil does it use in 3000 miles?

I understand that the AC can use 5-15hp. Will you use different size pulleys on the crankshaft and AC compressor? I changed my 06 Chevy from the OEM 8 inch crank pulley to a 5.75 aftermarket and picked up 2 MPG.

Dan,

When I was 21 I dropped out of the Uni-versity and bought 10 ac. I built a bansaw saw mill and cut the logs off the land for my timber fame house. Should have seen the reaction from fam & friends. I like projects like yours.

Remember, the Wright brothers took an engine and put it on a glider. Both existing parts

Spiker,
I was confused too. I found the pics that Danthefamilyman spoke of. To tell the truth I never knew there was a photo gallery.
but I do now.

Go to TBN main(Home) page, click on photos on menu bar, Now you have to find out which category Dan put them, hint they are in "Property, Land & Lifestyle" photos. I did try a search many times for his name using the search option but to no avail. Maybe something I am doing wrong.
Anyhow, here is a direct link to save you time. Then click on next image to see next pic. Hope this helps.

Dan
One thing that might be of interest to a lot of us here that run this engine in our tractors is what alternator are you using and what was involved in interfaceing it to the engine?
