I have an Agracat 25 horse 4WD. My battery does not charge. After talking to Jerry at Affordable Tractors (great help) and testing the alternator, we zeroed in on the voltage regulator. Here's the problem. AT has two different styles in stock. Neither one is what my tractor has. I've checked with Jinma Parts and Northern Parts (also great help). I emailed these pics to them and still no luck. So... I am hoping maybe someone could take a look and come up with something.

Thanks in advance
Mike

Strange that they don't have one that's compatible. Your photo suggests it's identical to those on a pair of JM254s I had. What differences made you decide against what the dealers had to offer? 12v is 12v, so if it's just a connector issue - why not simply splice it in?

Well, the regulator Affordable Tractors sent me has two screws or "lugs" on the outside. I'm not an electrician. My regulator has five wires coming out of it. What goes where? A simple diagram would be great. Anyone?

Thanks in advance

GregG & Mike,we sell alot of parts for Jinma and Foton, and sell to alot of dealers,I have never seen this type of voltage regulator or been asked for one that looked like this . I suspect this is from New 2004 /05 Agracat that did not come from Jinma, they switched to a different tractor factory a few years back. What year model was your Jinma 254 tractors ? Jinma used the old style 2-wire regualtors, then switched the the new style plug in.Also how would you wire in the 2-wire to the 5-wire ? This may come up again and would like to know if it could be done.

Mine were 2001 and 2002, before the quality control started to improve; individual gauges, pre-shuttle. Since AgraCat went bust around that same timeframe, I thought it logical to assume that Mike's tractor might be from the same (green and yellow) time frame - and if anything maybe there was just a different connector. Maybe mine were two wire, not I'm not sure. I was paying more attention to the shape of the housing. That's what looked familiar to me.

As such, I don't think there's much future in trying to make a 2 wire work in a 5 wire environment. To me, that suggests there's a whole different alternator being used.

AgraCat's back in business over in Farmington, but I think the bank(s) sold off his Chinese inventory. If I recall, he's now selling LGs - (and Escorts maybe?).

Try a mom-n-pop shop. They may be able to get you a 'will-fit' regulator... You never know. Generally they are only a cutout and a vibrating contact.. either providing field power.. or field ground. I've seen swaps between genny and alternator VR's. The adjustable lugs may be cut in and cut out and / or charge voltage.

I've used old style chrysler regulators on a hitachi alternator.. worked fine... ( on my yanmar 1700... )

Or NAPA.

My NAPA store has a huge set of books behind the counter, filled with thousands of photos of parts. If I bring in a part that has no number - or a number that their cross over computer doesn't recognize - we just open the book till we find a picture of it. That's how I got a strange looking Japanese fuel pump for my riding mower this summer.

Guys, thanks for all the replies. I was able to get my Agracat about 2 years ago. Through a buddy who just seems to know everyone, we actually purchased 3 tractors and removed them, fully assembled, a day before the company had all their inventory sealed for bankruptcy.

My tractor is pre-shuttle. I also have an external , spin on hydraulic filter. My gauges amount to an erratic tach, a fuel gauge that always seems to move towards empty faster than full, a temp gauge that has never worked and a buch of idiot lights. This is my first tractor ever and has been the greatest challenge of my patience and perserverence(sp?). OK, maybe not, but boy does stuff seem to break at the wrong time( like when you're using it and needing to use it). Go figure.

Anyway, like I said before , Thanks to all who have helpedand please keep it coming.

Thanks in advance
Mike

Hello all , I'm showing my age but the voltage regulators on 12 volt generators had 5 wire connections and when they went to alts. a 4 wire solid state unit was used for a while then 3 wire connections now 2 wire. The picture looks like a bosch or motorola early regulator from import car from the early 80s.This won't help you fix your problem just an observation. I would swap out the alt. with a compatable car unit (junk yard ) and be done. Thanks joe

I agree with Rrboomer, If I couldn't get the part easilly, I would look at retrofitting a newer model auto altenator with internal regulator. This would also simplify the wireing. The gentelman who fit the Jinma engine into a Mazda pickup used the alternator out of a Mazda B2600. Said it was nearly a direct bolt-on with only having to mod the top hold bracket to accept the alternator.

Good Luck
