Any, as long as there's a DENIS CIMAF head on it ;)
This is in reply to IronHorse's comment in this other thread.

Options to make a reverse rotation head are easy:

- About a year and a half ago, we did an inverted DAH-150E (DAH-150Ei) for a customer who had a Timbco (with boom on left side of the cab). Easy to make another one. That would be my recommendation;

- Or, of course, we could simply interchange the shaft on the rotor and use change the rotation side on the hydraulic motor. But I'm not sure I'd like to have a unit with a "rear" side wide open, and a "front" half open.

Of course, IronHorse, you could first meet with one of our customers, either in South Africa, USA or Canada, and try the standard DAH-150E for a few hours. From there, you decide what you prefer and we build it for you. How about that? :D

Thanks for creating this thread , I wasn't really planing to say any more in the other thread as I had stated my opinion but now Ive got this one . :D

The other thing I was thinking was , swinging left to right for the knockdown mode , the tree would be on the other side of the boom . If anything should happen , like a dead tree should snap off , the boom would protect the cabin . Doing it the other way around "could" have the tree slide along the boom and strike the cabin .

I would want a hydraulic mulching door with secondary cutters on it's underside , on the front face of the machine so both sides can be wide open for cutting woody weeds etc .

This is only my opinion , and I am not saying everyone else in the world is doing it wrong . But if was to make one , or have one built , this is how I would do it . I would simply reverse the cutters and use a reverse rotation bent axis motor if the normal ones cant be reversed because of hose sizing etc .

Email on it's way .

The front door would also act as a funnel to direct the vertical tree trunk into the rotor . Instead of having to try and keep the rotor on top of the trunk as it wobbles and tries to get away , the partly opened door would hold it captive and steady . The knives coming up from the bottom would more easily chip away at the wood along it's grain (like an adze) , more easily than cutting across the grain from the top . Once again , this is only my opinion .

You're right about the standing trees. On standard rotation, the left side of the machine is where the drum is going downward, and when you bite the tree good, it forces the excavator to the left, or force it down on the tree and bog the head.

Operators will instead use the right side where you don't have that force effect. It will make the tree wooble and bounce on the drum, but with the optional hydraulic door/panel, then the tree can be kept captive and not moving as much.

From what you said, I think you would then like that mirrored DAH-150Ei we built for the TimberPro. It's like the standard DAH-150E, but with the "front" and the "rear" interchanged. You would then have the side where the blades come from the bottom up and the hydraulic door in direct view, on the left side of the machine.

By the way, I say DAH-150Ei, but it could be made for any other model, if you have an excavator smaller than a 20 tonne. I'll bug you on this personally by email :D

But seriously, thanks for your comments. They are very appreciated. :)

Hello IronHorse,

Attached are pictures of a standard-rotation DAH-150E on a Valmet 425 EXL (boom on the left). That's a mirror of what you'd be looking at.

As far as videos, our DAH-150 video is a bit old, so I haven't put it on YouTube. But someone else did. See here.
