John Deere 450B Teeth

SO I think I'm going to tackle a pretty big excavating project with one of my in-laws pieces of equipment( Yes i know bad idea but its free as long as i fuel and grease it)

SO anyways, I have a shale bank about 6-8 feet in heigh that I want to dig back 25 feet or so but the teeth on the bucket of the machine are about the shape of teaspoons. I called the Local Deere dealer and he says he can get the factory teeth but thats it. I asked for a dimension on them and went on the hunt. I'm almost set on getting something like a tiger tooth or as near to that as I can. The only thing I'm worried about though is when I end up raking the teeth up the front of the shale bank, will they take the stress of the loader picking them up vertically through the stone or should I look for a little wider tooth to prevent snapping it off?

Never bought teeth for a track loader before so I'm looking for some opinions before I spend the $200 and start snapping teeth.

Check out your local specialist Ground Engaging Tools (GET) suppliers (e.g Hensley or Bradken) they'll be able offer specialist advice for your application - there's a world of difference between digging different shales white shale or usually easy whereas black shale san require a far greater greakout force.

Well i dont think i have a get supplier. Suprisingly the internet doesn't have alot of useful information on teeth for older machines. I spent an hour or two looking for the correct tooth(which I think I found) and for a more aggressive tooth but I can't find anything out for sure. SO maybe the right answer would be pull an old one and start walking into equipment dealers to find one that just fits and hope for the best?

Thanks for the help so far fellas. I was having a little trouble navigating on that heavyquip site but I didn't play with it much yet. I got ahold of some new shanks and teeth that my grandfather had laying in his shop that are supposed to be for the crawler. I measured the dimensions and came up with approximately 2 3/8" by 1 5/8" which i think is the size of the original shanks? The reason I say that is I looked up the oringal tooth for the bucket and those are the pocket dimensions approximately.

The part number on the teeth in the pictures is U16086 which from the website romacparts.comJohn Deere style TEETH on Romac Industrial Parts. So this appears to be a replacement shank I think for a hensley 160 series tooth that is original?? In that case, I wonder If I can find a tiger tooth for digging in shale? Any opinions on trying to use the tooth already that I have in the picture?

The Hensley part number for the 160 tiger tooth is TT160 the number for a twin tiger tooth is TX160wt and the number for the roll pin is TP160

The john deere dealer was a little less than worthless when I was looking for teeth. I was thinking the tt160 would be a great tooth for digging in shale, I just wasn't to sure how it would hold up in a loader application? IS there an online source for teeth that has pretty good prices? Any opinion on a tiger tooth vs. the pictured tooth? Thanks for the help mike.

The tiger tooth would be better than the twin tiger in a loader application in my opinion. Let me check with my parts guy at work on Monday, I believe we can get Hensley teeth, I will let you know
