Bought it used from a rental yard with only 500 hours. Good deal but when it was delivered I noticed one of the stabilizer rods was scored, probably from a chain. Not sure if I missed it during inspection or it happened during delivery.

Anyway, I thought I would smooth down the damage and hope it wouldn’t leak. After another 100 hours or so it has begun to weep. I was thinking that maybe just replacing the seals would fix it? Now it looks like something else is going on because the rod is showing signs of scuffing.

This cylinder is BIG and probably cost mucho bucks. Is it possible rebuild the cylinder and have the rod fixed? I don’t mind disassembling it but can I send the rod somewhere to have it refinished?

Thanks for any help.

Any good hydraulic shop should be able to rechrome the rod or make a new one we have that done all the time on excavator cyl then you just need a new packing kit
