Default Can I put bigger rear/front tires on?

    Hello,

My current tractor (ys4500) has 20x8x8 tires on it. I was wondering if it would be possible to put bigger tires on, like maybe going from a 20" diameter to a 22" diameter, and maybe an 8" width to a 10" width. Would this be possible? Same with the fron. Enlarge by about 2 inches.

    Thanks

Easley done with a 2 wheel drive tractor. A 4 wheel drive tractor MUST have the front and rear tires of the correct diameter or you risk blowing the front wheel drive and that = $$$$$.

The circumference of the new tires MUST increase proportionally back:front if you have MFWD.

I don't have 4wd on my tractor, so thats not a problem.

Thanks for the info. Would I have to get new rims also?

    Thanks

You could do it, but you will probably run into clearance problems. Going to wider tires will require wider rims. The new tires and rims will be expensive, and you might end up with rims that have different offsets and mounting holes. The larger tires will also put some extra strain on the hydrostatic transmission. For what you might gain, I don't think it's worth the effort or cost.

I'm wondering because I wanted bigger brute tires for moving snow. Would it be better to just get chains for front/rear tires and wheel weights?

    Thanks!

I didn't realize what you wanted the bigger tires for. The larger tires would be of some help, but you'd probably have to change them seasonally due to the mower clearance problems. That would be a bit of a headache along with the cost factor. In any case, you would most likely need chains and weights too. I would simply add the chains and weights and forget the tire change. You might also load the tires, which will add some additional weight and not stress the transaxle. The loaded tires can be left on a year round basis. As to weights, wheel weights can be left on all the time, and suitcase weights used as needed.
