Default wix filter for cub Cadet LT1042

I went to Napa auto parts today and obtained a cross reference number for Wix filters. The Cub Cadet LT1042 with the Kohler 19HP Courage engine has a oil filter number KH-25-050-25-S for the price of $10.35 that has to be ordered via Cub Cadet through the mail, however, the cross reference number in Wix filters is 51056 and can be purchased at Napa Auto parts stores for $8.79.

I am not sure but don't all the Kohler engines use the same filter? If so I have been using an AC53 or the Super Tech equivilant on my 18 hp Kohler for 18 years. If it will fit I will do the same on my new LT 1050 with 26 hp Kohler when it comes time to change the oil. JMTCW

That should be an A/C-PF-53 as well.I know the V-Twin 20hp on my LT-1045 (yeah I`m one of the lucky ones) is a PF-53

The Cub Cadet owners manuel (dated 1/16/2007) states that for models LT1042, LT1045, LT1046, LT1050 the oil filter part number is KH-25-050-25-S there for Wix filter number 51056 that can be purchased at Napa auto parts will work. I would rather go to the store myself to purchase an oil filter instead of calling a phone number, giving out debt card numbers and pay an extra shipping charge for a oil filter.

I guess I don't understand the stress in running that specific filter? Are there clearance/space issues on this engine?? There are at least a dozen Wix p/n filters that work perfectly for Kohler applications. There are many posts on this. Lots of us run Wix 51516 (Motorcraft FL400, Fram 3600 xref), which are much longer than the factory installed filter. More media, more oil holding capacity = always a good thing.

while under warranty, manufacturer or extended i would recommend
an o.e.m. filter.
life seems alot easier for all concerned should there ever be an oil related warranty claim and o.e.m. filter is on the engine

The filters that you mention have a 3/4 thread - one of the most common filter series. It varies from the PH3614 the shortest to PH3600 for a longer version. As others have mentioned longer is normally better but be careful - we saw an application that they used a longer filter and on start up the twist of the engine caused the filter to bump the body - eventually it caused a hole in the filter - the farmer did not notice and actually wrecked the engine.

As CCE mentioned using a OEM filter during warranty period is not a bad idea. Technically warranty should not be withheld for that reason - just tell some dealers - you have to fight to get it.
