Series 3000 quits when Hot

After about an hour of perfect running... my series 3000 with
the 20hp Command engine, sputters and will quit.... then it will not restart untill cold .
Engine has 750 hard hrs. on it .... with recent new coil.... only one replaced.
What's going on here ?

Have you checked for spark when it dies?

If you have spark, pull the cap on the fuel tank when it dies. If you hear a hiss and/or it starts right up with the cap loose/off, replace the cap as the vent is plugged.

No , I will check next time it dies... but it seems not to , as raw fumes, and smoke emege from tailpipe, when strter is cracnked after it dies.
Assuming it has no spark...what would cause this ?
New coil is about 6 weeks old. Would a faulty rectifier cause something like this ?

You could have a bad coil.

OP - could also have trash buildup under engine cowling causing heat buildup affecting coil....

Just quit again after 25 minutes of mowing... anyone have any ideas ?
No spark at all...but runs like new for the first 25- 45 minutes....

Bad coil.. Bad spark plug (drives you nuts, had it happen 2x)... Change the plugs and coil(s).

Thanks.... I will change plugs first...and if that don't do it... I guess I will put in 2 new coils... but one is only about 6 weeks old...
possibly a defective new unit.... don't know.

Good tip....checked cylinders , and they are clear...dealer cleaned them when coil was installeed in August.
Going to install new plugs today...even though new in August....could be new defective...
