hi, i have about 3/4 acre to mow, and would like to use the tractor to pull a dump cart , roller, etc. now i know the 1045 is a 20hp single cylinder kohler, while the 1046 is a 23 hp twin. it looks like the price difference is $100. what would be the smarter buy? will the twin greatly outlast the single? also i heard the courage engines only last about 750 hrs. while the commands last 2000 hrs. should i try to find a leftover 05 with the command instead?

I would try to find the Command...although in all reality the Courage will last as long as the machine does. But if you could find the Command then I believe you would be better off, I have one left if you want it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Of course if you can't find one then I would still recommend the LT1046, I think the twin cylinders are smoother and make less noise. Good luck.

I was looking at the 1045 but really wanted a v-twin. I checked with some local dealers and found one that had a '05 1046 in his warehouse so i got it. I tried it this weekend it was alot quieter than my 13 year old mtd with the 14hp briggs around here the '05 are $1799 and the '06 are $1899 but i think the '05 is the better buy because you get the command engine, and i like the drain plug in the transmission in case i want to change fluid one day and it has bearings in the front wheels although i've never had problems with bushings

I wouldn't sweat a few HP, the 1/2 cyl thing, or the 1" of deck. I'd be more concerned with the transaxle. I wouldn't do too much cart pulling with any of the 1000 series. They aren't intended for that.

G/luck
