My husband and I are having a difficult time deciding between the 2006 Cub Cadet 5264 subcompact tractor with a 26 HP Daihatsu diesel engine, front loader and a 60" mowing deck or the 2006 Cub Cadet 6284 compact tractor with a 28 HP Caterpillar engine, a front loader and 60" mowing deck. Cruise control and a ballast box will be added to both units. The CC 5264 is $13500 and the 6284 is $15600. A snow blower for the 5264 will be $2260 and $3000 for the 6284. An after market soft cab will cost about $700 for either unit.

We have a little over 30 acres of mostly pasture land in western Minnesota. The tractor will be used for lawn mowing, maintaining a 600 ft driveway, snow removal, bush hogging of about 3 acres and light loader work. The 6284 is substantially bigger than the 5264, but we are not sure if the difference in price is worth it, considering our needs. I would appreciate any input on the ease of adding and removing the loaders, front mounted snow blowers and other attachments for either unit. Also, what do you think of these prices and any problems or suggestions for either tractor would be welcomed!

I have the 5234D. Same as the 5264 just with 3 less hp. I remove snow from a 500' driveway with a full size 6' rear blade. Deepest snow removed was 15". Mine is a 2004 model and there was a transmission problem but that was taken care of in the 2005 models.

You shouldn't have any problem at all with a snowblower on the 5264. My 5234D easily handles a Woods 40" tiller (could go bigger but didn't need to), a 12" auger. The 60" mid mount mower does a GREAT job, I really like. I don't have a loader yet but the dealer demonstrated how easily it was to take off and put back on.

I am very happy with the 5234D and would buy it again. For what you want to do the 5234 or the 5264 would do the job. Good Luck

Thanks for the reply! My husband used our neighbors New Holland subcompact (with a front loader) today to remove snow and has decided that the 6284 would be a better fit for our needs. I personally prefer the smaller tractor, but the 6284 is a good compromise when compared to some of the larger tractors that we were considering, and I really like the deck wash system that seems to be exclusive to the Cub Cadet line. Do you have any recommendations for a cab? Wow! This has been a really difficult decision (buying a car is much easier), but we hope to make our purchase soon.

I don't know about the deck wash system. Seems to be a recipe for rusting out the deck prematurely. I honestly think it's a sales gimmick. I could be wrong.

I thought about buying the parts and adding the deck wash to my 2004 3205 but my dealer didn't think that spraying all that water in there was too good of an idea. I tend to agree with him. I never washed under the deck on my 1978 1450 with a 44A mower. I just removed it once or twice a season and scraped the dead grass out. It lasted for 17 years brfore getting badly rusted out. I replaced the deck shell and spindles with a new one and religiously hosed it off underneath after every mowing. I traded it in 9 years later and the deck had already started to rust through. Maybe it was just poorer quality but maybe it was from all the water.
