I was just wondering if it was normal for this to happen. It has the 23hp Kohler Command engine. Does it when it is being choked. Dealer said it is normal But I was Just checking.
It has 2 hr on it now.

Yep. They will smoke with the choke pulled. You want to push the choke in as soon as she fires up. My 2544 cold starts best if I run the throttle somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle, pull the choke, turn the key, as soon as she fires, push the choke in. Let it smooth out and go to work!

Mine does the same thing. I have about 9 hrs of operation. Constantly check the oil, no sign of oil usage. I usually don't worry about smoke on the start-up, most small engines will do this on start-up.
Question: Have you noticed the Direction Pedal sticking? Out of the box the pedal would return to neutral and brake would engage (safety feature) and would also be hard to push down in either direction. After 9 hrs of operation, it now sticks and continues to go forward after pressure is released from the pedal. Feels like the linkage is binding on something.
I have 6 HRS on mine now but, I see no problem with the pedal sticking. It returns to nuetral. I am pleased with my purchase. It has saved me about 30 minutes in cutting my yard. I was using a borrowed Murray 18 HP 42" cut. It has the HP to cut at a faster pace. The difference is night and day. I am hoping to get many years out of it.
Hope you get it all straightened out.
