Wheels on Box Scraper?

I spent a hour or so helping my cousin spread some gravel the other day with our tractors and I was amazed at how easy and effective his box blade was to use to finish off the gravel. He has a pair of wheels mounted to the back of the box scraper - extended out about 2' or so and they are adjustable in height by the use of a trailer jack. It was the fastest and slickest leveling job I'd ever seen done with a rear-mounted blade.

Does anyone here use a similar type setup and if so, can you show pics of your setup?

You say its's a box blade with gauge wheels? I don't thin that I have ever seen one of those. Rear blades and rakes yes.......

Most are homebuilt projects. I haven't used them myself but have a set in the planning stages. By all reports it works similar to a road grader and prevents the box blade from following the tractor into small hollows and divots.

Sounds like a great idea, like all TPH implements the most difficult thing is to gauge the height so you don't dig in to much or not enough, at least for me with my little experience it's a big problem.
I borrowed a york rake that had the wheels and it was so easy that I knew when I bought one it would have to have the wheels, so now I have the rake with wheels, I also have a 60" box that I will now look into putting wheels on, does anyone have a link to the discussions.
I also have a 72" rear blade but only use that for snow so I wouldn't need wheels for it.

Oh Heck..... put wheels on that rear blade too! I have em on mine for snow and it's "The Berries". I adjust it for 1/4 inch off the surface and it works great. Use them on earth projects too.

Maybe that ain't such a bad idea since I do a lot of plowing on gravel surfaces and thus a lot of raking in the spring.
Do you have any pictures of yours, this is what my 60" plow looks like with some extra weight on it to scrape better when back dragging trying not to dig in.

Here you go.... I think I got the wheels at TSC. I welded a bracket to the back of the blade then put a slotted bracket on the top of the castor so to make it adjustable up and down. I float the blade all the way down for weight and let the wheels carry it. Adjust the top link for a level blade.

I have a tendency to over build so it probably looks pretty heavy. Works!

Yup, that might be just the thing for clearing snow from the gravel surfaces, never seen or heard of the idea but looks good, thanks, John
