Adapting A Skidsteer QA To My Kubota B3030

Well, I made my first attachment last week. I'm always lifting something heavy........ and it sure would be nice to move the trailer around the yard with the tractor. One of those boom pole things might be handy too!

Is that your boom pole , or just a demo? If it is yours, I can give you some good advise if you are interested, or maybe you are not finished with it.

Its actually just an eight foot piece of tubing I'm going to use to make a couple different attachments. I wanted to see how much reach it would give me.......... but I'm thinking if I left it that long I'll end up flopping my tractor on its side with it. My plan at this point is to make something around four feet to be able to reach into my truck or trailer.

That being said, I'm always open to good advice !

I agree with kennyd that you drilled a bunch of holes. Did you weigh the pieces before and after to see what the weight difference is? Do you think it was as much as 50 lb? It sure looks nice though; looks like it should be on an airplane.:)

EDIT: Oops! Didn't notice your prior post about weight.

I'll stick to my 'under ten pounds' theory. It may have been more...... I just figured it was heavier than it needed to be for my tractor. Once I had it cut in two, it wasn't too bad to work with. No doubt I wouldn't have gone to that much trouble if it were going on someone else's tractor.;)

well doing my simple math based on a guess of 1/2" hole diameters and 1/4" plate steel it would be .01388#'s per hole. those assumptions 100 holes would be 1.388#'s...

mykleh, you are more interested in how much I removed than I if you gave it that much thought.......... but you'll have to recalculate. Most of the holes on the sides are 3/4, and its 1/2 inch plate. Also....... all the 2 inch, and 1 1/8th holes I made with the holesaw have to be accounted for also.

I finally got around to doing my bucket. I had to have a local shop cut the factory brackets off the back of the bucket. I local steel shop cut me the steel I needed. Originally, I planned on simply using the backside of the bucket itself to mate with the QA on the loader. Unfortunately, it got a little warped when the brackets were cut off. Not bad, but it was no longer as flat as I would have liked. So........ back to the steel shop I went to get a piece of 3/16ths plate cut to 4' x 18". I cleaned up the areas on the bucket that I would be welding to with a flap disc.

Next I assembled my QA plate. 3/8ths for the top and bottom bars, 1/4 for the two sides. I also added some 3/16ths to the top of the bucket, effectively doubling the thickness. Not only welded on the edges, but I drilled holes, especially near my bucket hooks, and plugged them. Then I added three grab hooks across the top.

I welded my new QA plate to the back of the bucket, and voila !

I notice a couple of the QA buckets I looked at down at the local dealer were tapered on the backside. I decided I'd try this. My QA is 44 1/2" at the top, and 48" wide at the bottom. This will (in theory) allow the bucket to self center as i drive into it and lift it.

Hopefully, this weekend I will get into the paint shop.

Fits like a glove. The pic of the back of the bucket shows the taper.
