We bought a new 7730 this winter to replace our 7820 and we noticed over harvest that it was way short of power compared to the 7820. They told us that they have increased the power on the 30 series and the 7730 was within 3 hp of the 7820 so we shouldn't notice a difference. The dealer came and dynoed it last week and it showed that it was just in specs and maybe a little above. Where the problem is at is in the torque at low RPM the 7820 put out 624 ft/lbs at 1403 RPM and the 7730 has to be wound up to 1600 RPM to make 564 ft/lbs. So now we are looking at putting a chip on it because it will not work the way it is. Has anybody had this trouble or has anybody put a chip on one? What kinds of chips are out there? I know about TS Performance and have been reading around a little about different brands.

What is the displacement difference? Turbo boost and more fuel can make up some difference if done right but, warranty will be voided. I remember a call in show on RFD hosted by John Deere and over half the calls were for more power in a given tractor. They just kept telling folks that the tractors are enginered from the factory and the tranny and rest of the machine weren't up to higher HP modifications...

This is a good example of what is happening in modern tractors trying to meet spec's for pollution, keeping the gov't happy and customers wanting to save money. Nowadays,on smaller tractors, they will put a 4 cyl in instead of a 6 cyl. Folks really need to look at torque curves and Nebraska tests to double check that what they're buying will meet their needs.
