Can you cut harden steal flail blades to fit?

Could you cut the conners off the top of harden steal flail blades to make them fit ? and what would be the best way to do it? The co. the mower came from do not have the blades I need .

You can cut most anything if you want to badly enough. Should you cut them?? another question entirely.
First off, what make/model mower do you have? There should be places to buy the proper blades even if the place you bought the mower can't get them for you. Would help to know where in the world you are too, might be someone on here that lives in your area that can give you very good information on where to get the proper blades.

yes, you can cut hardened steel. you can use either a hand grinder, or a die grinder. You can use steel cutting disc on either. You could use the regular grinding wheel or you buy small thin cutting disc to fit it, at most any hardware store. If you are not sure what size you need, carry the grinder with you to the store. zman

The make of the flail is Value Leader modle is VL EFG145 "56 [Hanmey Agricultural Machinery's co.] Support@Betstco.com A cheap mower was all I could swing for now [1,300.00] with free shipping . I live in Eastbrook Maine . I'll keep looking around , and only cut the other typ if I can't find the ones I need.Thanks for the advice on how to cut them if it comes to that ,I hope I don't have to it's 48 blades and any that I need to replace as well.

Another way would be to set up a jig in a milling machine and cut each one with a quick run over with a carbide insert tool. I wonder if they really are hardened at the top, since it would just cost more than doing just the blade cutting part in the manufacturing end of it, when they are doing thousands of them at a time.
If your close to me, we can set them up in my shop and turn the whole bunch into smaller pieces in a hurry.

The blades that I need has the cutting edge the whole length of the blade, not just on the bottom edge so I would think that it might be hardened ,maybe not. I wish I did live closer. I live in Maine, just off the beating trail ,but thanks for the offer ." Good Neighbor"

Any photos? Photos of the ones that already fit and of the ones that need to be cut down would be handy for someone to see in order to offer helpful ideas. How much needs to be cut off? How long of a cut would it involve? While I do not have a flail mower one may be in the future so any kind of "things to watch out for" I like to make myself aware of.

I'm new at all this ,so I'll see what I can do to get some photos on, if I end up cutting down some. Being a newbe I'm learning, ask alot of qustions[ even if you think it might sound foolish] it matters alot on what you want to use it for .

I think a chop saw would be the safest way to do this.
