Found out that the newly installed, electronic tachometer was not giving the correct
RPM. Calibrated it with a hand-held tach and now we are getting 2800
RPM. The internal governor spring can only get a small amount of
RPM increase. I put another spring inside of that spring and it helped some. The governor is driven on the camshaft and consists of rotating balls. I was told that I could remove 2 of the rotating balls and it would be like a car engine. I don't think I should do that since a diesel will run up and keep increasing
rpm with just a small amount of fuel. I think it would blow up.
Thank you for the tip on changing the rear gears. We have discovered that there are many different gear ratios for this truck and we will try to choose one that will get the truck to 75MPH at about 2000
RPM.
