Is it possible to convert at John Deere 455 from 2 wheel to 4 wheel steer? Would it be a bolting on components? if not, what would need to be built/customized?
Has anyone attempted/completed this type of conversion?

Thanks for any and all input.

Anything is possible, but I don't think it would be simple or practical. I guess if you found a donor AWS model with a blown engine it might be worth it, but there are a lot of different components involved-including different wheels.

You should start with studying www.jdparts.com so you can see all the differences for yourself.

kennyd nailed it.

I think it would likely be cheaper to trade it on a 455 equivalent with all wheel steer.

KennyD,

Thank for the feedback. I was having problems w/jdparts.com's site, but was finally able to get confirmed and access today.

have a Ferrari articulated machine. JD has them overseas but have not seen them in the States. great for hill/vineyard/orchard use.

At the least you would require a new transaxle with all the pivot points.

For reference: My son has a X749 and all of the steering linkage is expensive and high wear items. All wheel steer also reduces your ground clearance.
