Last year as the days started getting shorter and I was working into the dark many nights I realized that the headlights on my BX23 were pretty much useless in many cases - especially when traveling with the FEL bucket raised - because the bucket blocked the headlights.
So I experimented a bit trying to figure out the best way to mount some lights on the tractor that would allow me to see where I was going when I was carrying a load or traveling with the FEL bucket raised at a good height for travel ( IE just high enough so that it did not dig into the ground). I thought about mounting some lights high on the ROPS but after I experimented with that a little decided that I did not like the lights shining right behind my head and they also tended to attract bugs around my head too. So I decided that the lights needed to mounted low on the front of the tractor where they could shine UNDER the FEL when it was up. I fooled around with a few different ideas because I wanted the lights to"
- not block removal of the cowling
- not get hit by the tires when they are at full lock and at full upwards travel
- be far enough back that I wouldn't break them off driving into a dirt pile
- not interfere with other front mount accessories.
- put off a good amount of light
I ended up settling on some Hella DE projector fog lights which are pretty small and round. Then I got some 1/4 steel tube that the lights would fit into and welded up a 'pod' for the lights to go into. I started this a few months back but just had the chance to finish it up this weekend. I am waiting for it to get dark so I can try them out and see if they work as good as I hope they will.
