I was wondering if anyone can offer any advice on buying a cylinder for use as a hydralic toplink. My tractor is 60hp and cat. 2.
I was told by a local supplier that excessive pressures can build up in cylinders under load causing seals to rupture and that there would be side load problems also. Obviously though, plenty of people are using them so I'm assuming it must be a case of getting the right size and style of cylinder for my application.
Any thoughts or insights on this greatly appreciated. Thanks. Gerry

The absolute best place to buy your HTL is from CCM. They have cat 1 and cat 2 with the double pilot operated check valves. Call and ask for Mark. He posts here under the screen name CCI.

I have never heard of any of the concerns your dealer is talking about. Maybe Mark can give you some of his expert insight into any issues there may be (if any at all).

Hi Gerry,
I bought my top link from CCM with the DPOCV and it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Many guys also buy their own cylinders and don't have the DPOCV on them without problems. So it is very doable.
I think your dealer who told you that stuff is full of BS.

Mine is the CCM as well Cat2. Works very well. Be sure to use 1/4 inch hose to slow it down a little, makes it more controlable. Only had one load where the cylinder would not lift with perhaps 3 to 4,000 lbs and some overhang. No damage at all just would not lift

Hi Guys Thanks for all the info. Sounds like CCM is the place to go. Getting a hydralic toplink is the first step in my plan to build a quick attach for my 3ph. Now that I'm getting a little older my back is forcing me to use what brains I have attach stuff to the tractor instead of trying to manhandle them into place. Thanks again. Gerry

Does anyone know when the Cat 1 top links will be in at CCM?

I called them to get a CAT II link this last winter and was told they didn't have them and didn't have any idea when their supplier would come through on their order. I found it strange that they didn't put notice on their website about not having inventory.
