Brought home a 1974 110 with an 8hp motor. The transmission has 4 fwd gears and 1 rev.

Getting it ready to do some work.

Best info I can find on the net is .625 quarts of engine oil and .75 quarts for the transmission.

I put a full quart of engine oil in and the dip stick seems to be at the top of full.

The transmission has taken about 1.5 quarts and it still isn't at the fill hole. On most transmissions, dont you fill the fluid until it gets to the fill hole?

Should I fill to the fill hole or drain the oil and put in a measured .75 quarts?

I have a 1969 JD 3 cylinder diesel, built in Germany. I have rebuilt the 3 pt. hydraulics and rockshaft. I didn't change any of the settings when I did the rebuild. I can't get the arms to fully raise up. They lift about 1/3rd of the way up and stop. I have connected a gauge to the port ahead of the pilot tube and only get a brief shot of pressure up to about 500 psi and then it drops back to zero. Any help would be appreciated.
I talked to the local dealer and they gave me a part number for a 35 amp 24 volt alternator but I checked and the tractor has a 6 volt battery on the right side and a 12 volt battery on the left side. I belive the tractor is a 1971 model , diesel , there were two wires going to the alternator.

Any tips on things to check before I start making it work?

It's a 1974 110 with a manual transmission. I believe it is the 8hp but the previous owner wasn't sure.

Does 1974 qualify for vintage?

After a lot of work, I now have my 3010 rockshaft working very well. (Tractor is an early '61.) I have one unsolved problem - fast leakdown of the hydraulic part of the rockshaft system when the tractor is shut off. The lift arms settle to bottom in less than half an hour.

The shop manual is very unhelpful, but it seems to say that the rockshaft flow control valve also functions as a check valve when the engine is off. I opened up the valve assembly and removed the flow control valve along with its strong compression spring. It looked fine but I bought a new one anyway, along with a new spring. No change at all. I've studied all the parts diagrams and I don't think I am missing anything.

Has anyone encountered and solved this problem? It would probably be common to Deere 3010/3020 and 4010/4020.

Well i think my rings or valves are going bad in the 70.

I topped off the oil and coolant couple days ago and i noticed she has really started smoking. even at idle i can see light white smoke and when i throttle up or work the motor it smokes white until you load it down than it darkens also i'm getting little light splatters of oil on the hood from the exhaust. is there an easy way to figure out if the valves are leaking or if its the rings?

I'm going to do a total rebuild restore but not for a few more years. the tractor runs perfect still starts right up and the power seems to be about the same.
I used it for a couple hours this weekend so tonight i plan to add oil to it tonight and can report on how much oil it takes to get it back to full again.

Also my son LOVES the 70. he calls it the Big putt putt.
and for the safety police when hes on the seat for a ride i am going VERY slow and am not doing any loader work or pulling. I grew up riding on this same tractor with my dad and grandpa. he's Gen 4 to ride on it.

Also the from the front picture its running and you can see the smoke from idle. and yes the tractor is in N breaks are locked. ha-ha.

Hello. I'm new to this forum. I just purchased a john deere 820 German for 800 dollars. It was running 2 years ago and they sat it up because the starter went out.
