OK, I know it still pre-Thanksgiving, but I am thinking about taking up a collection for a Christmas gift for LBrown. I say we all chip in, like two bits and perhaps we can scrounge up $40 and buy LBrown a used digital camera off eBay.

Maybe he can actually take some current photos that way and we won't have to look at the same dozen photos, (you know the ones) over and over.:D:D

It will help us all get in the spirit of Christmas. What do say guys? Anybody down for it?

I just started having a problem with my BX1500 going up hills in 2wd - it seems like the transmission is "slipping" - it is worse up steep hills and not noticeable on gentle ones. Also, when engaged in 4wd, it seems to help, the front wheels seem to pull through. Any thoughts? Does the transmission have adjustments to correct this? Is it possible to do these myself or do I have to take to a dealer?
Thanks

Attached (I hope) are a couple of pictures of my L39 at work on a "fixer-upper" house I bought. The L39 has been enormously useful; I've put nearly 100 hours on it since August. Mostly moving junk, but I had to find the old septic system, which took a lot of digging, and I had to replace it because the tank was full of roots and the top was in bad shape. Pictures are of the new 1000 gallon plastic tank and the infiltration chamber sections. Soil was extremely hard clay/caliche mix, with fist-sized stones for aggregate. Needless to say, digging was slow.

The house is visible in one or two pix. New roof, new siding, windows, and whole new interior, eventually. I estimate at least one year for the whole project. Over twenty dump runs to date, with a 8' x 16' x 2' dump trailer. Biggest load was 12,400 pounds, nearly all concrete. Septic tank pieces and parts of old slabs and sidewalks.

Mojave Desert near Ridgecrest, CA. Mountains are Sierra-Nevada Range. Had the L39 nearly two years; about 230 hours on it. This was the first time I had used the 24" backhoe bucket.

My 26 year old B6100E has always been stored in a metal shed of the same age. The shed roof rusted, however, and before I realized it, rain leaked on several parts of the hood and fender and caused the finish to fade in those areas. I suppose the rain water stayed on the finish for some time because the shed was closed up and evaporation was slow.

The tractor now sits in a new dry shed.

This tractor's finish is otherwise as glossy and bright as it was when it was new but now these faded areas are there. Automobile polish seemed to make no difference and I am looking for suggestions on restoring these faded areas. I have not tried a rubbing compound. The original finish is so nice that it would be a shame to do a repaint job.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place, so please excuse me.

I am considering buying a L3400 and I read on TBN where owners have complained about the 3PH being jerky. Some said that it had gotten less jerky in recent years, but it still jerked. I called my Kubota dealer and asked about this. He said he had received some complaints, but that was several years ago and he had not gotten any complaints on the 3PH in the last couple years.

I will test the 3PH at the dealer to see for myself if it is something I can live with. We are mainly going to be using it to dig postholes, manure loader work, light landscaping and light plowing. I am mainly looking at the L3400 because I want a gear drive transmission with a Live PTO. I just cannot bring myself to get an HST and the price is virtually the same for a L2800HST and a L3400DT. Both with loaders.

I also asked him if there was a way I could download an Owner's Manual for the L3400, but he said a downloadable file was not available, just the hard copies he had at the dealership. Does anyone know where I can download a PDF version of the Owner's Manual that I can read up on the operation of the L3400?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Standard PTO Rotation

The more I look into this, the more confusing it is.

My 1983 B6100E Kubota´s rear PTO shaft rotates CW as viewed from the rear of the tractor? It is 1 3/8" diameter with 6 splines and turns 514, 870 and 1498 RPM at 2800 RPM engine rotation

It has never been used but, if I should want to, is this a standard PTO that will work with most implements? It seems like I often hear that this model's PTO rotates in reverse from standard.

Usually, PTO discussions refer to a rotation direction but are not clear as to the viewing direction. Wikipedia says CCW as viewed from the tractor and I take this as CW as viewed from the rear of the tractor. If this is correct, then most implements want to be rotated CCW as viewed from their PTO input.

Help clear this up for me.

Tire recommendations / Ballast suggestion

Have a BX2660 that I need to do some grubbing work with and I'd like to know what you guys would recommend for a second set of tires. I have turfs now because I use my tractor for 95% mowing but I will be doing some loader work and clearing a large area (will likely use a rachet rake for this). What would be a good choice of a second set of tires used purely for loader and light brush clearing? I'll be working on some hilly areas if that helps.

Second question is what is an appropriate amount of weight for ballast for performing this type of work? I have seen an attachment from Omni Mfg where weights (weightlifting weights) can be easily added to a welded set up that looks like it might do the trick. I was thinking of adding 200lbs to the rear of my machine to make loader work better - is this adequate?

I'm sure people have seen some stuff on EBAY but I've picked up a front mounted hitch and grill guard - both of which I'm very happy with. If anyone has a need for either there are some good welders selling their products on EBAY.
